Don't know if it's a typical Dutch phenomenon. They're fixed points in a constantly shifting beach landscape and used as geographical markers.

Hello Mr. Dolsma, and thank you so much for your instructions. Funny how the subconscious works with imagination; I've always loved Constable's work. Especially the one you presented here. I've also had the fortune to travel to Florence for an up-close marvel at Brunelleschi's wooden model of the Duomo. It makes sense that these and other deeply moving moments have been inspirations to my works. Now, I need to pull from these resources and focus on their intent. Ahh, she says. Duh...

Thank you for your kind comment. Confrontations with the work of the masters can indeed be defining for your own work. Like my Ruisdael moment. Hope your moments are as fruitful as mine were back then :)

Once I began to study J.M.W Turner and look into his lectures on perspective, my sketches took a huge leap in skill. I am learning almost entirely by studying the masters and making master copies after my introductory sketch course in 2018. I have improved greatly with practice, and cannot stress enough the importance of the masters. I love them to death, and we owe them everything if we wish to become a link on the chain that connects all artists.

Janhendrick- The Old Masters would certainly welcome you as a peer or even a teacher. I am much more drawn to your work than anything thing from the 17th century. Your compositions are always well thought out and subtly fall into the recognized principles. I like that they are more hidden in the work. It's usually not until the third or fourth viewing that I become aware of how you've lead my eye around and through the scene.
