Know your content. Know what you are talking about. Know when to open yourself up and join the content and yourself. Know when to separate yourself from the content. This is a great starting point for speaking. If you are presenting difficult information, or information that will not be received well, Use other sources for how to present. Body language is incredibly important for your presentation.

It's great video and thanks. I liked how the speaker engaged audience by asking questions regarding his mother and father with audience.
Totally agree with the points you make - when you say feel comfortable with the stage, for me it's important to use the stage as a solid foundation from which to deliver and also build confidence. Now's the time to put into practice your recommendations!! Thank you.

Most of these I'm good at, but the podium thing nailed me. He SO right. Once I get my hands on the podium, it's never flat on the ground again! It feels like confidence, but has to be very distracting and limiting!

In communication I only know 7 38 55 rule - 7% is content, 38% is tone, 55% is gesture .
Great insight
Nice body language tips.
I was recently taught that we stand on podiums. Your point is referring to the lecturn.
hooo, I got a presentation tomorrow!
1 thing I learned from experience is to interact with your audiences. I am a key note speaker & at conferences. I know my audiences & will play on professions with a bit of banter - as an Accountant I banter on why the Finance people all drive new cars & why Auditors have no friends.
Proud of you (Y)
wow this is great !
I enjoyed using this video for my students in 7th grade. One point to consider, if you would - at about 2 minutes in, you mention not to touch the podium. I believe you meant lectern - the podium being the small stage one steps onto to be elevated when giving a speech.
Increíble ❤❤❤
Im in search of this video from fews day now i got ri8 one.....soooo gud
I feel like some of these are exaggerated. In my class, I noticed that the ones that are "confident" have their hands hanging low. Does that mean they are are brave because their arms are not folded? Or are they too scared stiff? What I'm trying to get at is, why can't we just talk and present how we want to present? I fold my arms mostly because it relaxes me. Nervous? Sure. However, I could say the same when I put my hands behind my back when I'm nervous. And this happens sometimes.
I love how the tips you are giving are pretty much the same tips used to calm animals. I intend no disrespect at all when i say that. Humans and animals respond to a lot of the same triggers. I haven't watched your other content yet, but I'm hoping you go into have you use your body movements as part of your delivery. I like your sharp movements, and how you use them for misdirection. You turned to the side and closed up your space as if you were going to start speaking softly, then rapidly turns back, opened up, and increased your volume. It's like comadies version of a jump scare.
Any book recommendations on how he knows this stuff. I'm curious
Great Speakers will always be open to an audience and will never be close to them, so they can't look away while the speaker is speaking and will have your attention while you speak anywhere. Another way is to get comfortable with the stage or anywhere you are at to move around, this way the audience with their eyes will follow you where ever you go. When you have a podium do not touch in order to not get nervous. keep your arms out and never crossed, because it will seem like you are closing yourself off from the audience.
#Goodstuff!
Thank you so much
OMG... You summed up two hours' worth of lessons into just TWO MINUTES
your body language amazing
Awesome awesome tips
What a great mom you have, wish you best of luck
Yet to hear as good speaker as Dananjaya at the world champions of public speaking.
I can't believe that a World Champion of Public Speaking (Toastmasters International top honor) suggests that we, as speakers, keep our hands off of the podium. That's almost automatic unless you speak while lying or sitting on the stage. You see, the podium is what we walk upon while delivering our speech; a platform used to raise something to a short distance above its surroundings The lectern is what we might be tempted to place our hands upon. A lectern is the slant-topped high desk that you as the speaker stand behind and use when reading your presentation notes. To remember lectern, think the desk that holds your lecture notes. A podium is a raised platform on which a speaker stands during a presentation. To remember podium think podiatrist - which is a foot doctor. Dananjaya Hettiarachchi, you're a great speaker...good enough to win the WCPS. I admire that. You fall short when you show you don't know the difference between a podium and a lectern. I haven't won the WCPS, so I defer to you on that. I have made a nice living speaking and coaching emerging speakers, and I happen to know the difference. (And I teach that difference to my students.) Now (if you even come around to see this message) you know the difference too.

Technically speaking, yes, you're right. However, podium and podium-stand are now used interchangeably to mean Lectern. The average person doesn't know the distinction and as he's speaking to the general public, I'm guessing he opted to use a common word to enable clarity (than having to explain the meaning of the right word).
@aljensen5912
7 ай бұрын
Both "Podium" and "Lectern" are common words. A speaker worth their salt should know that. Where in the world did you come up with "podium and podium-stand are now used interchangeably to mean Lectern"? @@SaffariRose
@SaffariRose

@@aljensen5912 What world do you live in? Ask a random person what a lectern is, and get back to me with their answer. To be frank, you simply sound jealous and outright petty; traits that a supposed 'public speaker' should desist from.
Great one
Thanks for the informations! This will be a great help for my speech contest tomorrow ^^
Good tips. I would add one more which is equally important: Don't move too much while presenting. I have seen many people making that mistake. It is extremely distracting for the audience.
@Zetsuke4
4 жыл бұрын
Moving a lot is fine but disturbing if the movement is annoying especially when the moving is a anxious nervous tick. Lots of strong speakers have movements it's just powerful and expressive. Movements are only bad if they communicate what they dont intend that doesnt support what they are saying, such as showing their anxiety
I agree sir, thanks for upload this video.
