As a licensed cosmetologist I have to commend Mell here for this quality channel ! This is the most legit education for curly hair are you can find. Mell has helped me to level up my skills with my curly haired clients and in caring for my own curly hair at home too… so much!! It’s insane! So grateful 😊 Not to mention she is charming, hilarious, & beautiful. Such a fun watch. Much love ❤️

Maybe that should be a question for potential stylists. Take a picture of the Guido sisters to your consultation appointment and ask them, do they look familiar to you? Does Manes by Mell ring any bells? Finding someone to cut curly hair properly is a struggle, especially when you don't have a clue going in. Years ago I remember sitting in the chair with my glasses off and then hearing this tearing sound. It was the stylist ripping at my curls with a razor. I had no clue this was a no no on curly hair.
*AHHH I appreciate your professional opinion so much - I'm terrified to touch my own hair but too cheap to pay hundreds of dollars for regular dyes. Lol thank youuuuu for this!*

Thank you for this video! Made me feel a lot more prepared taking on this project at home. 6 hours later 😅 and I love my results!
I followed this tutorial using teasy lights last night (with different products) and my hair turned out SO AMAZING. A very even blonde on my ends and a golden dark brown on my roots. I did not lose a single curl and my hair doesn’t feel dry. Thank you SO MUCH for making such a detailed tutorial. Now, time to binge your maintenance videos!!
Perfect timing! I’m trying to change my hair up for Easter, and definitely doing it all at home!

LOL thats probably the easiest part! but also only optional for that seamless blend! Many people prefer brightness right to the root so you can just highlight and tone all over!
You are an absolute lifesaver!!! I swear your chanel is a super entertaining, beautifully produced masterclass on how to deal with natural textured hair. So glad I found your chanel, and thanks to you and Amanda for the awesome content.

I just had the harsh harsh realization that my stylist when I was a kid was actually coloring and styling my hair such that it would actually look decent should I embrace my natural texture. (And yes, she did wear her 3b hair natural, and yes, she did almost exclusively work on thicc hair). Thanks Jill. You loved me before I learned to love myself.
Never plan on highlighting my hair and yet I will watch 😁
I sooo appreciate you. This video is smart, informative & friendly. I'm not brave enough to color my hair. But I needed my Tuesday Manes by Mel, upbeat, smart, fabulous stylist check in. You lift my spirits!!! Stay healthy, happy and safe!!!!
This is EXACTLY what I was looking for. Thank you so much!!
I loveeee how u describe this, this is the best highlighting tutorial I ever watched. Soo detailed. ❤️😻
Mell i love you so much! this is just what i needed! the steps you show will definitely take better care of my hair than what i saw the hairstylists i want to did.
I would love for you to do a piece about what ingredients to look for when it comes to proteins and moisturizers, humectants, emollients, etc. Figuring out the right balance based on ingredients is challenging. I know more about what to avoid than what to look for. I love all your videos and think you're great!
best video for highlights love it thank you definitely will be doing
Following this video today, thank you for having the best/most informative video out there!!🙏❤️
Thank you for this video Mel! My curls and color are very similar to yours, it was as if you were working on my head. I feel pretty confident I can do this now 👍
I love doing my own hair! My 2 best friends of my life are hair dressers but live an hour away. They are always helping me pick colors etc. I like this video and ur seesters one bc ur only doing highlights and not full head color - my hair is brown level 6 naturally but my roots grow in level 4. I have 1 more video to watch in this series but i just wanted to say this is great information, your instructions are clear and helpful and for women like me, who are gonna color their own hair regardless, it helps so much! Thank you for doing these!
Mel, I love how you rock your curls!
Best video I ever saw on highliths. How often do you touch up your roots? And how you do highlights on the back of your head?
I am getting all supplies today after work and giving it try!
I’m so tempted Mel!!!!! Thank you for all of your videos❤️ we literally have the same hair color!
Lots of love from London Mell!! You are a joy to watch, wish you all the best!! ❤️❤️❤️ you are my fav youtuber by farr!!
Mel, you’re amazing!!!!
I really needed this video lol. Thanks mell, great video as always
Adore you, Mell! I found you at random a few months back and even though I have 4C hair, a lot of what you teach can be applied to my hair and it's been life-changing. I've only started embracing my natural hair in the past 2 years, and, to keep this short because I know ain't nobody got time for reading my hair story, I had no CLUE what I was doing. The methods you use, the rules you 'break', it's all been essential in bringing life back to my hair. I'm now ready to try coloring it, for better or worse haha (you've got me feeling confident). Everywhere online says to color it dirty, but you washed your hair first here. Would you say coloring it while the hair is 2-3 days into a wash'n'go would be a bad idea?
I would love to see more color videos for brunette and red hair next!! ❤️❤️❤️
I saw an article today about how local salons were putting together take-away home-color kits for their existing clients so they can touch up their roots at home while not ruining their color for the next time they get to the salon. (Personally, I stopped coloring in 2013 and grew out my gray, so this isn't something I need to worry about!)

I think it's such a responsible and thoughtful thing to do for clients! They're going to want to do their own hair anyways, so provide them with the right tools in the meantime!
I dont plan on highlighting my hair but im watching cause i love your content!
So happy to find this one I really really really needed this! crying over my hair cuz a professional did "their" thing on it again (4x all diff ppl) . Now I can save it 😭💙🙏 thank you so much Mel I really appreciate you love!!! Wish you were closer 😊
Not needing to highlight (I like the occasional grow out of natural especially when my stylist blends a great color), but did trim the hairs today before a bath. Seeing how it looks as it dries, but so far turned out great from your tips!
Oh my goodness!! Can I pay you to do my hair?!!!! Pure perfection!!! 😘

Hello Mell, I'm a new member in your channel and really you make me fall in love with my curls,,You have an ingenious way of explaining topics،، can't stop watching your videos ❤
Looks amazing
I would love a video on Olaplex products. I have never heard of it until I started getting into this curly girl thing. Side note: My hair has been board straight my ENTIRE life until I was about 40. It has gotten curlier and curlier as time goes on. Now I have a full head of wavy/curly head. I am having to learn from scratch and let me tell you, the struggle is real! So allllll of that said, your videos have REALLY helped me! And you are absolutely hilarious. Win-Win for me!
OK, so I did my own home highlights. Was a bit of a struggle to do it on your own hair, but I did it! Thanx for the video Mell! Still need to fix the color as my hair is still brassy even after a toner.
THIS WAS AMAZING!😍🥳 color is such a beautiful topic i would love to deeply adress in beauty school 😍 you explained it amazingly! You just gave me the confidence to do it OMG, i think i would try when things get better. Thank you so very much, I truly admire what you do, thank you!!! 🥳💕

Im seeing lots of women pick up diy highlighting kits. Good luck! I love your blonde halo! 👼
How do you feel about the pintura highlights that curly salon suggest for curly hair? Do you think it’s necessary or would going to a salon for regular highlights be just the same?
I did it!!! From washing with Malibu and air drying to now sitting with the Fiber Fix bond connector 10 HOURS but it looks not half bad and I also had greys so couldn't figure out how to do it but honestly I'm impressed
Yessss wella Also as a licensed hairstylist as well with curly hair I approve and appreciate this informative video for those who are going to do their own highlights

Hi Mell!! I would love to see some videos about how to protect your curls when you spend a lot of time in the ocean/ sun and you have color treated/ highlighted hair. Any product recommendations for pre/post ocean swim/ surf and frequency/ type of deep conditioning since your hair has to constantly be rinsed out. Thank you so much and keep up the great videos!!!

My mom colors her own hair and I asked her if she could color mine using your steps, so I’m excited! I have no desire to go inside a hair salon right now and usually they damage my hair anyway. Im in the process of ordering all the products you have listed. The only thing is that I’m not able to order the Olaplex no. 1 and 2. What can I use instead of the no.1? Thank you for all your step by step videos...I love them! I’m still learning but at least I don’t have damaged frizzy hair anymore. We should be doing this In about 2 weeks, because of everything I have to order but at least the next time I’ll already have everything. I’ll let you know how it all works out!
I’m too chicken to add highlights, but I am going to color my roots and add some multi tones with the e salon. I am going to follow your tip to start in the back, not fri t so I do t have a dark hairline. Thanks for the tutorial.
Hey Mel :) Thank you so much for all your videos, they have been extremely helpful. I really want to highlight my hair but I am wondering why you didn't do the back? Or start with the back? Or maybe you did, and did not include in this video?
thank you very much for this video, excellent explanations :)

I KNOW I ain’t ready to do this to myself, but I am ready to let you bless my curls with your magic mel 🙏🏻😉
you are amazing! thank you
Lol I wish I could have you do my hair at least one good time ❤️❤️. I’ve been blonde for a while, and the last time I went to get my roots touched up, I left the salon with no curl pattern whatsoever. I was fighting back the tears as I was driving home 😭😭. I found out the reason why my hair was so damaged was because my stylist had previously put dark PERMANENT COLOR on my roots to blend everything out, and then months after when I need my roots rebleached, my stylist bleached the permanent color in my hair twice in one session with 40 volume developer......needless to say I know now EXACTLY what to look out for when it comes to having someone do my hair. Your videos have definitely helped me! ❤️❤️❤️

Manes by Mell Thanks so much! Olaplex 3 has definitely saved me. My hair isn’t fully back to the way it was, but it’s getting there. I don’t think I have it in me to big chop atm.
Awesome video!! Thank you!! How did you do the back? Did you just do a half highlight?
i just started watching your videos and i love you!! also do you think you can do a video with tips, tricks, products, and process of caring for wavy hair (like 2A or so)
Thank you for your video I have been watching KZread videos the past couple days trying to figure out what products to use when doing my hair at home. I just happened to be looking at a video to find out what curl products you use and came across this. Two question just to clarify 1) at the end was that a root smooch you did? 2) I read through all the other comments and saw that you use colour touch sometimes to tone all of your hair what shade do you use. Last thank you so much for all of your videos and instagram it’s making this isolation more easier and entertaining
Mel I need help with my hair!! Half my hair at the back is limp and the front is loose ringlets. I’ve had layers put in and I don’t know what to do. Also my curls/waves start an inch from the root and my scalp hurts after two days from wash day.
Love this!! Can you do a balayage diy?? And... you’re so awesome. But after this I’m sure you needed a vacation! The work!! lol ..but so worth it 😍🥰🙌🏽
Hi, just found your video , I have curly hair and going to attempt highlights soon 😱... But using a boxed dye, hoping it will have similar results... Your hair looks beautiful 😍....
Thank you!! ❤️❤️
You look beautiful and so skillful with the video and all the explanations! I did have a couple of questions: 1. So instead of the Malibu C for professionals, what do you recommend for clarifying? 2. How long did this take you from start to finish? 3. Did you end up using ALL 7 of the Olaplex products? (this is such an expensive process!) and last one 4. How does one know which color to pick?
Hey Mel! Love your videos!! You have helped me to transition and learn love my curls! ❤️Color question 🤔 I have ombré hair, with the roots darker than my natural hair color. Is is a good idea to use a color remover on my roots during this quarantine season to let me natural roots come in more naturally? What about the bleached blonde ends?? Any tips would be so appreciated!! My hair is looking rough 😫
100% virgin hair but your videos are pure entertainment. I really love the organizing, step by step, and reasoning behind it all. Something about it is reassuring.

You have the cutest personality I swear
You're a godsend! I used to stay curly in the summer only, but I have decided to retrain my curl pattern and you are helping immensely. My question is actually about hair dye. Is there a safe dye that is truly safe? I feel too young to go gray.
Mel I'll wait for you to do my hair lol... your hair came out beautiful
Question: In a previous video, you said babylights were a no no for curly hair, but sometimes I slick my hair back into a ponytail; will doing the "chunckier" sections make my hair look streaky when it's pulled back or will it blend out nicely?
Can you do a video on how to determine what color you need and how to hairline touch up for grays? I'm terrified to try it at home!
