    It took me years to get lucid enough to understand dream control. Now that I'm lucid regularly 3 to 4 times a week I work on my dream control. I love calling in the military and turning my closet into a secret room. I learned that the most effective reality test for me is counting my fingers. I do it all the time in dreams now. I even stopped doing lucid dreaming tests and practices and I'm still getting lucid regularly. It's foundation that gets you lucid. Having a good foundation will achieve the results your looking for. I'm so glad I had tuition with Daniel really paid off. I plan on having another session soon. I use to be afraid of my closet in dreams now it takes me to amazing places. I push open the wall to where ever I want to go. Dream control is a whole nether skill that takes time. Lucidity is just knowing that your dreaming. Dream control, on the other hand you can even be non lucid and have dream control. I've experienced that plenty of times. Now my brain is like I can do what I want now.

    I never had a lucid dream, but i've seen and studied A LOT about it, so i think i can say this, if you want to do dream control, the key thing is BELIEVING, i know it sounds silly, but if you want to do something in a LD, you NEED to actually believe it is gonna happen, if you want to create a mcdonalds in front of you, you need to believe the mcdonalds is gonna show up, if you wanna wake yourself up, you need to believe you're waking up, any doubt will greatly reduce the chance of it working

    Thank you for sharing your wisdom, Daniel. Yes, lucid dreaming doesn't necessarily entail control. I always mention this to people interested in having their first lucid dream. Control often requires practice. And I remember LaBerge using the word 'squema' in his ETWOLD. 👍🏻

    Thanks for the video, it will be very useful when I will be back to having a longer lucid dream where I will have time to experiment with the dreamworld before I wake up. I seem to have cracked the nut on why I rarely get lucid with my watch, despite using the digital watch test as one of the physical checks in my lucidity test practice. In waking life when I do the watch test, I scrutinize the time in a lot of detail (maybe too much detail) to make sure the flow of time on the watch is normal, including the flow of seconds. In a dream that I had last night, I was doing a lucidity check because I saw my watch initially show a blank display, but when I got to a room where no dreamlings will distract me from doing a lucidity check in detail, I started immediately with the watch test, and probably what's happened is that the way I'm currently doing the watch test in waking life, combined with a very strong assumption that I'm "awake" in my non-lucid dreams, made me try to scrutinize my watch in such a way so that I would eventually see a stable and logical time. This process was eventually completed, and I didn't become lucid. Currently, if I do become lucid through testing reality with a digital display, this happens when I'm using a clock that just has hours and minutes. However my watch, which also shows seconds, is oftentimes stable during most of my dreams. From what I think the cause of rarely getting lucid with my watch is, I think I should readjust the way I do the watch test in waking life, by not focusing too much on the flow of hours, minutes, and seconds and instead just focus on answering the question "do the hours and minutes on my watch become dramatically different when I look back at my watch". What I'm thinking of is this process: - When I get to the watch test, look at the time that my watch is currently showing (for example 5:31:06 pm) - When I write into my short term memory that my watch is showing 5:31, look away and will those hours and minutes to change to a different time (for example 25:07), or fill my short term memory with gibberish, and whatever I do, ignore the flow of seconds - When I look back at my watch, critically evaluate if the hours and minutes have changed in any way, and if they are still 5:31, move on to another test or conclude that I'm awake But after all, this is just my hypothesis of why my watch rarely got me lucid in my previous dreams, and a hypothetical solution that aims to fix this problem. Does this seem like a legitimate solution to increase the effectiveness of my watch tests, or should I do something else? Thank you and stay lucid!

  • @LucidDreamPortal

    @LucidDreamPortal

    Firstly thank you for your support!! Ok, so i think you're close to being right here. What I'd say is that you might be overthinking the test a little. Go in with the assumption "if anything is out of place at all, it's a dream". So heavy scrutiny isn't needed, for example in the dream you shared the blank face should have been an immediate end to the test and realisation you're dreaming. Keep the process simple and binary. If the watch isn't behaving normally, you're dreaming. Focus on your own ability to make that quick assessment, don't become entangled in the process itself. All we're really testing is stability, which equates to memory. So yes, your instincts are correct with that. My main concern is that you're getting too caught up in the mechanics of testing and overlooking the more obvious immediate results. Be aware that the brain is very good at justification for anomalies in dreams, so don't give it a chance (or time) to do that. Hope that helps!

    Dream wishing has (almost always) led to my frustration, mainly because my brain isn't used to it. Several times it just won't listen and I cave in on those emotions, ending lucidity. This even happens with more simple goals I've completed before as well. It's definitely something that I tend to avoid due to what has happened in the past, but I have found the other tips really helpful. Assumption and expectation is my go-to right now. I just recently (and I'm 3 years in) discovered a way to have flight not be frustrating, and that's to already assume I'm in the air and imagine where I am up in the air. There's also my go-to dream goal of shape-shifting which, lately, I've been struggling at. I've found it best to already assume that I've shape-shifted, even if my perspective doesn't seem 100%, as it leads to more enjoyment and less frustration. To beginners - please start small like Daniel said! In my first lucid dreams, I was plagued with worry and trying to do too many things at once, which led to frustration and anger at myself. Start out small and build a foundation to do bigger things. If you have a big dream goal, break it down into parts and work on each smaller part first. Confidence is key! Great video that I hope I can use soon! I always like dream control videos as it's a topic I can always improve on!

    The point about expectations is something very important people need to remember. When I first began lucid dreaming, I assumed that everyone was able to control their dreams with 100% certainty and accuracy every time. So, therefore, I could. I never struggled at all. When I wanted to lucid dream more regularly, I began looking into how to do that and heard one person (a different channel, I think) say that you won’t be able to control your dreams reliably at first, so don’t expect to. Apparently, that embedded in my subconscious, because I stopped being able to control things easily And have never fully recovered the ability. I have to do stupid workarounds now, like asking Alexa to turn the lights on or finding a light switch in random places instead of just deciding “no, it’s not nighttime in the dream, it’s daytime,“ like I used to be able to.

  • @LucidDreamPortal

    That can certainly help, but be careful not to extrapolate to far on your individual experience. There are many documented cases of early lucid dreamers struggling with dream control, long before any expectation memes were available to poison minds. You're absolutely right that positive expectations can be very powerful, but not all lucid dreams are the same and different areas of the brain are in varying states of activation. It's good to assume easy dream control, but to have strategies to improve it should the conditions prove otherwise. We must be very careful not to make blanket assumptions with something as complex as the mind 🙂

    I had a lucid dream last night in which I tried to switch on a light and was surprised when it didn’t work. Only after waking up did I remember Dr. Keith Hearne's light-switch effect. Is it normal to completely forget things like this in lucid dreams?

  • @LucidDreamPortal

    @LucidDreamPortal

    2 ай бұрын

    Thank you Calvin, I really appreciate your support! And yes, dreams do not require us to consciously recall a memory in order to use them. However, the light switch effect does seem to be a genuine effect in the dreamscape - so it may simply be that you experienced that and memory had no influence. It's impossible to know for certain, but it's one of those fascinating mysteries.

  • @calvinosaurus4514

    @calvinosaurus4514

    @LucidDreamPortal Yes, I don’t think that my knowledge of the light-switch effect caused it to happen. What I also find interesting is that I did not think of that phenomenon in the dream and only remembered it after waking. This shows that my long-term recall was impaired in the dream.

    Hey Jim, thank you!!! Yep, that pretty much nails that odd flow of thoughts that lead to inadvertent dream control! Curiously I spend a lot of time in dream forests (and waking life ones too, I just love nature). And yes, it's amazing. Occasionally there will be a little amnesia, but not very often. It's common in the early days as it appears that memory systems are mostly rerouted to dream generation, rather than direct recall. But once you become more grounded with a few years training that issue becomes less of a thing.
