I’ve had these trucks for 50 years. Rebuilt a few columns myself, you’re doing a good job. Thanks so much for pointing out to people how the rwo square headed bolts actually work. Lots of people have all sorts of ideas about how to put those bolts in and they’re all wrong.

Love it!! They are about 40 min away from me, but sooooo worth it! Well once you have that column apart and back together as many times as I did filming this, you will be a PRO!!

Thumbs up for the dryer being used as a workbench! Thanks for the video. Even though I'm putting a later model collapsible column in my '62 Ranchero, your video was very helpful.

Do you have a part number for the pin removal tool you used. Great video! I was wondering how the top bearing was held in and now I see how it works.

Thanks for the video. Been trying to take care of dad’s 66 F100 since he passed somewhat recently. He did a power steering conversion (and other stuff) which means a lot of the parts have been swapped or modified so it’s not always clear what I’m actually working with part-wise. The steering shaft has play up/down so been digging on the net trying to understand how it goes together and functions. There was a big aha moment when you mentioned setting the clearance at about 1:00 left in the video. I think this is what I need to do to fix the issue. I couldn’t quite tell what happened to secure it. Just the small clamp? It seems I need to loosen this clamp, push the shaft in to proper clearance (no slop), then tighten the clamp. Does this sound correct? Thanks for any advice you can share.

Yes, that is exactly how that works, as long as the upper and lower bearings are in good shape. You'll get it! 👍👍

Thanks for the quick reply! Using the information from your video gave me some new research material. I think I’m figuring this out. Fingers crossed for no issues with the bearings which should make for an easy repair. No more forgetting to turn the blinker off. lol Thanks again.

Update: Fixed! All this time with this condition and it was a super simple fix. Thank you so much for taking the time to show this assembly process and help me out! Now, of course it wasn’t as easy as just moving the clamp. Due to the modified components the clamp bolt then wanted to hit the column bracket… Ultimately I think the bracket needs straightened a little but I was able to finagle things enough to prevent contact. We’ll roll with it for now.

I missed the turn signal canceling cam or does your switch not need it?

  • @StevesBeyondRepair

The cancel ability came from a pin that goes on the grant steering wheel adapter, and I left it off. I have a blinker buzzer that reminds me when I leave blinker on.👍👍

@@StevesBeyondRepair my wife is always telling me I forgot to turn mine off. I noticed mine didn’t have the cam that’s why I asked. I’ll have to look at my steering wheel, not sure it’s grant I got it from Tom’s a few years back.
