90%?! Okay, so I'm not only a FF nut, but I also play in a FF tribute band, so here we go.. Dude, they do blast beats like maybe 3 times on an album. Sure, they have a lot on Soul Of a New Machine (which most are super sloppy, and not patterned), then Demanufacture has H-K which has the ever-so-famous "THE MACHINE IS NOW ALIVE..." blast beat. Zero on Obsolete and Digimortal. A little bit on Archetype, a little on Transgression.. Then we get to the Dino return era, which has more of these, as Gene Hoglan not only specialized in that style, but applied them somewhat generously in Mechanize, which in turn influenced The Industrialist and Genexus. Yes, there was more at that point, but certainly not 90%. Thank you for attending my Ted Talk 🤓
I love learning about blast beats more than anything. I'm a drummer trapped in a guitarist body.

Poor you.
9:00 I've tried practicing for YEARS to be able to do the whole "two rhythms/time signatures simultaneously" thing, whether something like this, or singing while playing anything syncopated on an instrument. Never ever could. So much respect to polyrhythmists. 💕
Babymetal did a band instrumental intro for a new song on their Metal Galaxy tour. They each took a solo and ended with the drummer. After they were more than half way through the tour, the drummer incorporated a gravity blast to finish his solo and it blew my mind with how intense and fast it was! Thanks for showing me how it’s done!

You're a really big inspiration for me, Samus. I started playing the drums myself over half a year ago. And now, I'm learning Almost impossible blasts because of you! Thanks in name of me and everbody! Keep going pls 🙃
I just realized that my beautiful soul of a drum teacher in the late-90s post-soviet Ukraine taught me 90% of a dirk blast. Unfortunately the dude drank himself to death, but bless him for teaching me a fundamental that Dirk eventually turned into a blast beat. Fuck yeah. I wish I kept playing drums.
Dude. You’re so modest. I’ve watched you forever. I usually like your more comical videos like farts on a keyboard. Like...ya...obviously you’re a great drummer. But dude....you can teach like I’ve never seen. You could seriously teach someone that has never played drums to be able to do those blast beats on their first try because your explanations are so clean and the way you speak there is zero judging or the very common “look at me I’m a bad ass drummer!” You just seem like an honest nice guy. Keep doing you man! Ohhhhhhh yuuuuuurrr!
This is just what I needed to finish off my weekend, gravity bomb blast for the win!
Not a drummer, and never have been, but watching Samus is such a pleasure. Played with a lot of drummers over the years but his skill and ability to break down complex beats is inspirational. Oh Yuur!
Dude, the way he crosses his hands during the Dirk blast is hypnotic. I'm not even a drummer (I dabble every now and then but I'm mainly a guitarist), but I have never met any drummers (face to face anyway) who could do that hand switch so cleanly and precisely.

I'm not a blast beat player - but I appreciate those that are. And it always amazes me at the speed that drummers that tend to gravitate toward blast beats (Pun??????) have. Thank you for sharing this - I'm actually going to try and practice some of these and see if I can do them. Even though I know they aren't easy, you make them look as such with your playing.
