Great video. Those reading the comments, remove the negative cables from your batteries before you start welding and have a fire extinguisher near by just in case.

Man, I wish I had the money and or Knowledge to do this. I have a 07 mega cab that I would love to keep but it is a money pit. The rockers, cab corners and upper wheel wells are toast. Awesome work! If I decide to tackle this job, I will reference your video and pick your brain for months, I am sure.

Its actual cheap and easy if you do your homework on tools And how dos ..Your basic needs will be sawzall And grinder with a cut off wheel And a drill The welder which would best suit You And the cost And the need would be a mini mig welder - $200 avg Then get some 18 gauge metal to test it out on ..plenty of videos on how to weld thin metals ..Order your parts for that truck..Find the welds on the old parts Drill them out And chisel the rest Clean up the areas with the grinder And sandpaper Get some weld thru primer .. Before you weld make sure the battery is dis conn..And you have a bucket of water around ..Its good if you have a place to work on it And up to having min a compressor for airtools

I’m a so glad I came across this video! I starting to doubt my decisions I have made on my own 2006 2500. Your inside skirt panel is where I was struggling and you made a simple but a effective replacement for that. I could send you pics of my rockers and the trim cut’s are the same. Thanks for an outstanding video for this repair. P.S. I’ve also ran into dead ends on locating the inside skirt panel replacement.

Awesome work brother awesome. Thank you so much for showing how you do this. I have my 05 dodge cummins same truck. I have the same job to tackle. I rather buy the equipment to keep and have forever than pay someone 6k to do for me. Guess it's better to screw it up several times than pay another to do. Again thank you for sharing your knowledge. It doesn't really look that bad, just gotta dig in and get after it.

Fill it with fluid film until it starts draining from the drain holes after youre done welding to prevent the rust in the future also a friend told me energize the metal before doing anything to the metal it help deionize the metal so it kinda rejects rust then spray it with a neutral based ionized clear coat and proceed with the regular paint, and clear coats they said dodge used crappy metal that in conjunction with the positive charged paint they use causes rust faster than chevy or Ford thanks to du...ont paint company not saying any specific name 😁 because of legal reasons but the lead based elctron paint isnt good

Wow. This was an excellent video covering this repair. I honestly was shocked seeing the inner rocker panel just evaporated like that. It's amazing how bad that rust was. Great work on covering that. I know this video is old and I will subscribe and watch more, but just wondering what welder and what weld through primer you use? I kinda wonder seeing the inner panels with all the holes in them - do they have adequate drainage if salty water gets in there. I saw you addressed it with the replacement panels. I am looking at some 3rd gens and considering how much rust repair I want to get involved with. Saw one in Indiana that has some rust starting on the drivers side. Where there is rust there is more rust... Do you still have any access to get behind or inside those rockers and or corner with fluid film spray wands? I feel like annual application for any vehicle in the rust belt is a necessity to keep these trucks from rusting into the earth. I really like fluid film and supposedly there's a new one from PB Blaster I think.

I have done a lot of this sort of work on old GM square bodies and Gen 1 Dodges... I now have a really nice '06 Megacab diesel that is showing the signs of rust in the rocker panels. Repairing it looked a bit complicated at first glance. My question was if the doors had to be removed or not. It looks the doors would be a severe pain to remove what with a ron of wires feeding into them and all. but it looks like you did all that without removing them. Is that correct? I am going to watch this a few more times and get what I need together for the rebuild. Thanx so much for posting this!

You could have but welded the rockers on then it wouldn't need but a lite coating of filler only . That's what I would have done and I have been a body for over 21 years

They are engineering vehicles to disintegrate, a half competent engineer could make it last 25 years in a Minnesota climate. When paying 60 thousand + for a truck, this is shameful. My 2014 ram has this exact same problem,,,,,, 9 years old!
