Amperage depends on the size of the electrode your using. 7018-1/8 electrodes are run at about 100 amps. In this video he’s using 3/32 rods at about 85 amps. But always play around with the settings up/down because if other people are welding around you and drawing on the same power source, it might be what’s causing problems also. Hope this helps.

  • @mainesteam4636

Something to consider, if you can use power tools, on the fill passes don’t strike ahead. Light up behind where you stopped and grind off that high start. You don’t have to worry about burning out your start when you do that. It doesn’t work on the cap passes because you’ll have a grind mark on the cap then.

I’m running a 3/32 electrode though so remember that, if you’re running a 1/8” I’d run around 115-120 amps. Best of luck!

@@mattarnold4071 we run 3/32 in class and I had been running it between 115-125amps. I kept getting massive amounts of arc blow at the top of the weld right before the upper runoff tab. Last night I went in and cooled it down to 85amps and it ran perfect. Thank you.

Every d11 test I've ever taken was done semi out doors with a generator welder and there were no power tools allowed. Simulating field welding were most d11 will take place. Good stuff but I do wish a field type machine was used. If your a welder you know they burn different

No power tools is a d1.5 bridge code test. As far as welder goes, there isn’t any designation stating what kind of power source is acceptable for testing.
