Very nice intro to the Mole, would be interesting to see some more walk through tutorials.👍

I have just bought the Seal pro scanner with the Smartgrip and initially was very disappointed with the poor results. The software is not at all intuitive and the manual is almost a joke. I have had to resort to pestering people on Facebook and KZread for help and advice but congratulate you on one of the most informative videos I have seen. Even though it is not for the Seal, the software is identical and your in-depth explanations are first rate. 3dMakerPro could learn a lot from your presentations!!! Keep up the good work mate.

Awesome video and tutorial. I just got my mole and was lost with the software and this really simplified it. Thank you!!

I did buy the Mole because of those recommendations but find that it lacks the ability to capture details well compared to photogrammetry - that was unfortunately a costly mistake on my side. The tracking issue is also extreme - also with the Lynx and some materials refuse to be scanned. Seems photogrammetry is chapter and more capable.

I think that photogrammetry is much better for most cases.

I have a Revopoint Pop2, nice to have, but simpler shapes i can still draw quicker in fusion than scan them. for complex shape it is very nice, and always suprises me how dimensions of scanned part are spot on.

Yeah. Again I'm a 3D modeler by trade so some things are faster and easier to model but even being able to quickly scan so I have the basic shape is a huge head start on more complex objects.

how good is the mole to 3d scan small BUT very thin objects ( action figure armor) golfball size but with 2mm details and walls

Did you put the scanner manualy diagonally like scanning through all the deep holes for it to know that there is material or was it just scanned from one angle on the rotating platform?

  • @BusterBeagle3D

I tried scanning it hand held as well to really get in those holes. I was honestly surprised it even did as well as it did since it's really hard to scan that type of object.

I absolutely hate this scanner and its software, but your tutorial has made me hate it a lot less. My version of the software seems to be a little bit different than yours. I just bought this scanner last month and I work with it everyday to try and learn more about it, but they are very vague about what they want you to do to proceed. If it were not for your tutorial, I would be completely lost. Thank you very much for the tutorial.

That would probably work just fine. Anything coat the surface so the scanner can see it.

Great review. Very rich details in using the software. Just wonder whether it uses AI

Great review but the device has the same shortcomings that all similar devices have. A lot of after-scan work for a somewhat expensive scanner. And they want extra $$ for add-ons which should just be included. This type of device, though slowly evolving over the last 20 years, still has a way to go.

Hahaha. It is pretty incredible how far they have come since I first used one of these things. I actually figured out that it was 15 years ago when I last bought a scanner so I guess that is a pretty long time for an improvement.

@@BusterBeagle3D For sure. I started out playing with the David scanner software using a green led wand shining through a glass rod (to get a green line). Used the David software and a cheap MS video camera. Got results but I always ran out of memory because the files were so huge. Also, spraying everything with foot powder was annoying. This technology will really need an AI breakthrough.

Is this scanner precise enough to get a good 3d scan of a coin

  • @BusterBeagle3D

    @BusterBeagle3D

It might be a little too low res for that. It does say .1mm by coin details may be smaller then that. They also sell another one called the Seal that has a higher resolution.
