3D Printing and Testing Another Coin Sorter on the Prusa i3 mk2
Ғылым және технология
Coin sorter machines are fun, and the last one I printed sucked. I found another on Thingiverse thanks to The JAT.MN, and it's Eugene Pentland's model. Let's give it a try on the Prusa i3 mk2 in Rapunzel silver PLA.
Yes, the thumbnail pays tribute to what everyone THOUGHT the other video was about :)

I'm actually considering saving up for a 3d printer but the only one that looks even remotely nice and cost efficient is the prusa m3. but I know next to nothing about the right software and technologies. :/

The software is quite easy to learn no harder than cad you can find all kinds of videos and tutorials online that are easy to learn, I on the other hand am saving up for a milling machine and a bench lathe, decided to get into gunsmithing, so for now 3d printers are on the back burner.

Well, I'm a fan of that video because I am most attracted to 3D prints that serve a purpose. I love the idea of something functional or mechanical being printed. So I would love to see more videos about functional 3D prints.
I've watched so many of your videos and assumed you had at least half a million subscribers. You deserve much more! Keep up the good work

I am soooo glad this video came out. After watching the first video on the makerbot coin sorter, I printed this (I have a very large coin jar at home) and tested it out and realized it doesn't work. At all. Except for quarters. I was going to design my own, but this one is done much better than I could and I am glad you made a follow up about it. Hi Five

Whoa, total win-win!
I don't think it's the fact that it's a coin sorter, but the fact that it is a practical model. lots of stuff is on how to use or adjust various 3D printers and that is great, but most everything else is novelties and nicknacks. they can do SO MUCH MORE. loke be the base for cold cast parts or positives for molds, but what most people probably want are useful tools and gadgets. things that show this could be an improvement to any home by solving problems. this may sound harsh, but I have a printer myself and I have a lot of nicknacks and stuff I could ((Do)) make but the things that I'm really proud of are the more technically complex things or things that solve a problem or fill a need. they just don't come around all that much.
That may be the best coin SNORTER that I have ever seen. Well worth a visit to the front page.

Motor+Gear+Battery+Hot glue+That coin sorter= FUCKING AUTO COOL SORTER+sandpaper= GOOD AWESOME FUCKING AUTO COOL SORTER
FWIW - The first coin sorting video appeared mixed in with the other 3D printing channels I watch, and I clicked it because the model was both a practical idea (well, kinda) to use at home, and a good way to look into a basic mechanism loads of machines use. I'd bet videos showcasing models like that would tend to have wider appeal than videos showing stuff that can be printed just because it's cool. That said, I'm sure there's plenty of us that like both types!

direction specific model . If we set the largest tube first during rotation then all coins will go into that . I mean the starting point and direction of spin must be specified in thus model .
As someone who collects and saves up change for splurge purchasing a coin sorter like that would actually be an amazing thing to have. XD Especially if they tubes only held enough to be put into a coin sleeve.
I found a coin sorter that was almost identical to that. I had way to many problems with it to the pieces not fitting together to them just breaking, I don't know if its because of my print settings or printer but i tried multiple times and finally got it together... not without some layer separation and splitting
Nice job! Now you need to make some fun coin with a coin spinner or machine Coin Vortex!!

a coin vortex! yes!
Hey great video! I thought the spinner getting stuck had been fixed. The first one I printed got stuck because I took it off the build plate while it was still hot and it ended up getting bent, I might make some minor notifications to prevent this. Thanks as always for watching, Brian!
Nice. I do have a couple of further improvements. The dial should be motorized so that you can feed in the coins while the dial continually sorts them. Another thing is some way to remove a tube without disassembly. The thing is, once the first tube fills. you have to disassemble the unit to empty it. Not saying that's a huge deal or any thing, just saying. A question: are the tubes calibrated to hold the the same number of coins as the relevant paper tube to put them into?
Looks like the new model should work better simply because it doesn't rely on the coins rolling down a chute. I can't wait to print it!

So, I'm into things like this, small things, trinkets, or just cool models 3D Printed. I want to get into it myself, but I don't know what printer to get. I was looking at something like a Monoprice Select Mini, since it get great reviews for the price, but realized that I could quickly outgrow it. What would be a better option, say preassembled and with a larger bed but staying uner the $1000 mark?
@3DPrintingNerd

If you want to get into it, the Monoprice Mini is a great starter. Yes, you will outgrow it, but, you'll also learn a lot about 3d printing without breaking the bank at first.

"well, that might be true, but I don't yell at fish" not sure why this is so amusing to me
High Five Joel! i don't know what it was about the video either but i really enjoyed it and personally prefer it to "mailbags", "Q&As", etc that seem to dominate a lot of channels. oh, another reason, I don't feel quite so bad about how untidy my office is now! :-)
need some advice. I bought a solidoodle and have to return it (missing bits can't print) and found out they are out of business. going to get a different kind. MP Maker select plus vs. Cetus. which is better???

Do u have any idea where us people without 3D printers can get one of these... I've looked on amazon most are manual (as in you place the coin in the correct individual slot) or electric... I'd like something like this... simple and easy...
! Is there a larger version somewhere that can take a small jug of coins at once?
I still haven't got the chance to get me a printer, but trying to learn as much as I can. Looking to get the Prusa i3 mk3, yet I still would like to know more about scanning, splicing, and making my own prints. Everywhere I check on the internet said you have to transport scans through the cloud, is this true ?
Does the type of filament matter or does it just have to be PLA and can i make this on the ender 3
possible modifications: increase the height of the coin tubes and round off the edges. Increase the center pot height the same as the coin tubes. Attach a stepper motor to the bottom and a gear system that will move the gear 1/4 rotation to feed in the coins automatically. Overall a killer project man i want to buy a 3d printer so bad.

hi, question should I scale this to a slightly larger size like 101% since a lot of times prusa i3 prints things a tad bit smaller than they actually should be. thanks
@3DPrintingNerd
7 жыл бұрын
Hey there. No need to scale it. I don't think the Prusa prints things a tad small, maybe it's the material shrinking?
But wouldn't you have to spin it a certain way or the small coins will go inside the larger containers? Or does it have a lock so u can't spin it counter clockwise?
I’ve found all the parts including the ones that are not in the link but I could not find the new wheel. I was wondering if you could give me the link.
I'd love to see a design made to cope with all the different coins you find in the UK. I can only imagine it would be significantly larger than that small one XD

Hi, I live in the U.K. and was going to design one for our currency, I was just wondering how much bigger you made the tubes compared to the size of the coin?
What build volume do you recommend for a 3D printer?
