I just screwed on some square pieces of 1" thick HDPE onto the chuck and turned an appropriate sized circle. I made a few different sets and there isn't the fear that the pieces will break.
Great content😊⚘

Thanks a lot! This was a super fun experiment and I have to admit I was a bit scared when pressing the on switch with the jaws on the lathe. :-)

@@WayofWood You are absolutely right 😁 PLA tends to be more fragile than other materials when put under stress Thank you for sharing this video Awesome as your heart ⚘

@@FixTronics Carbon fiber nylon or a tough resin would most likely work better. But for the price of a bottle of tough resin I already get the steel jaws - so it would defeat the purpose. 😏

The honest answer is: It depends. When you turn a relatively small piece of wood, support with the tailstock, use a strong filament I would feel save using them. I have been turning some of the first lids at 2200 rpm and the jaws hold fine. I would not use these without a face shield and would not hold a big bowl with these - but when using them with care I personally feel relatively save.
I'm sure it's fine but I don't think I could trust it. I've had some things fly off the lathe and I have had things made of PDA completely explode. Like I said I'm sure it's fine but I'm just too paranoid
