3d Printed Vapor Blasting Nozzle (Testing with new Stainless cabinet)

I was fortunate enough to recently get contacted by a viewer working on an incredibly interesting vaporblasting project.
I was sent a CAD file for a 3d printed nozzle to try out, so I dusted off the printer and fired it up . It was the first time I had used it for a proper build and naturally made a mess of the first print. I was able to work out a couple of issues that may arise so jumped on the computer to design a new version.
This video is of a test of that nozzle in a new stainless cabinet.

    Just wanted to say I've ordered the manual and the 3D plans here in Portugal and built my own little cabinet (on a budget). The 3D parts work great and the results are equal to anything you can get professionally! I've featured it on my own channel and would recommend buying the files! For small DIY projects, it's really a game changer. Took a few days, but the balance is finally just right. Thanks!

    Hi Trev, There is another video where I touch on a few options. The quickest and easiest is to run a submersible pump. I tend to use 750w and over unless I know the pump performs well. Cheers!

    Hey Mate, It depends on what you are doing. If you are doing an initial clean 80-90psi. If you are polishing for a more shiny finish you want to drop to 30-60psi. Air jet size will be relative to your air supply. The nozzles I make usually ship with a 2.5mm air jet and will suit most 3hp single phase compressors. I use a 4mm air jet on the nozzles I make when I use them in my 75cfm compressor. Thanks for watching!

    Thanks for the brilliant ideas on this channel. I have an idea to make or adapt a hydro-cyclone type separator on the wash down system for a complete closed loop. If it works I can eliminate the need for purging. Good day.

    Hello Josh Parts that are grody like that, I use the dry blaster first with either fine aluminium oxyde or fine crushed glass (cast iron or aluminium) and the lime or korrosion deposits are of in less than a minute and afterward I wetblast them to get a glossy surface in no time. You get top results in a very very short time, much faster and keeps the water cleaner. Reetings Bernhard List From Germany

    Hey Bernhard! Nice to hear from you again! Yeah I do have a dry cabinet too that I use on some jobs usually, but my extractor set up is fried and need to be rebuilt. I usually just use the vapor blaster to show what they are capable of. Cheers!

    Hello, this is very interesting. I don't have a lathe or other machinist tools but have power hand tools, can you make the brass gun without the lathe, maybe use a drill to drill out the "Y" ? Thank you.

    Hi Chris, Yes they sure can be. I was contacted by a guy in Africa that built one with a die grinder, a drill press and some hand tools. Some guys buy the cheap air blower kits with the jet extensions and use those for the air jet. Thanks for watching!

    Would it be faster to sandblast, followed by vapor blasting to peen and improve the finish? I.E. can the vapor blasting be used exclusively to provide the smooth finish, rather than both cleaning the part and finishing it using the same technique? It seems like it is a slow process compared to sandblasting.

    Yes, especially if you are blasting a painted object or something that is powdercoated. Most people with the option will do this, though if you have a good air supply and more aggressive media, the process with just vapour blasting is much faster. I did a manifold just last weekend that was dry blasted first and then finished with a vapour blaster. Thanks for watching!

    I have seen it done before. I just went with stainless because I didn't have the equipment to fold or weld aluminium. I suspect that would be a similar reason to others. But I don't see any real limitations to aluminium if you have the equipment/ability to work with it. Josh

    Hi Dai, I use relays. I have a 12v power supply that is switched by the pedal and closes the relay. The relay powers both the pump and the air solenoid. Thanks for watching!

    Im getting close to having my inspired design up and running. I noticed you've tried multiple different fittings as the body of the gun. Have you found a body shape that performs better than the others? Brass T fitting vs brass strainer trap. Has that 3d printed body got a 3d printed air needle?

    Hey mate, Sorry I never got a notification of this message. This nozzle has an aluminium air needle. I think I can get a 3d printed nozzle to work, but I am working with an old printer that struggles to print perfect circles so the air jet I designed is still untested. Most of these nozzles are used on entry level cabinets with relatively low capacity air supplies, so as for the different shapes, so far I have not noticed a conceivable difference in the various fittings.     Hey mate, depending on the cabinet size, I usually use a 12v 10" or 12" automotive fan. Wiper system is a universal marine wiper kit. Thanks for watching!

    @@stank9203 Most blasting is done between 60 and 90PSI You really need to be over 15CFM at a minimum. Ideally you are over 20CFM, but I tried to balance the performance out a little given that most people only have retail grade compressors.

    Usually aluminum oxide but you can use crushed glass too.

    Do your guns work better than the standard ones you can buy online that seem to need more air and are rather slow

    The guns are just a part of the equation. The ones you can buy online will work fine and quite quick when used in the right setup. The nozzles I build were developed to find the best balance between performance and efficient air consumption. For systems with a high flow of slurry and big air supplies, the online ones are better. But for most setups with average air supplies, these brass nozzles are better.
