3D Printed Chess Set & Leather Board - How to make a Chess Set

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Since I got my Elegoo Resin 3D printer, I had in mind to make myself a new chess set. Because I just love the game, even if it doesn't love me.
To make the board, I used a 1.2mm/3oz white chrome tanned goat hide, some water based yellow and purple leather dye.

I purchased all the files for these beautiful chess pieces here: www.myminifactory.com/object/...
I reduced the size of the pieces by 1.27 and used my Elegoo Mars 2 Pro with Jayo UV 405nm black and white Resin, washed the parts with isopropyl alcohol, cured all the parts with my Elegoo Mercury, appliied one coat of black and white Vallejo surface primer and two coats of black and white Vallejo Game Air paint. I should probably have applied a wash once all the pieces were ready, to give them a "proper" model look but I liked the black and white, and usually let things age naturally. And I also lack the skills to make it look nice, but I'll learn :)

The precision to make those squares even on a flexible bit of leather is amazing! Great job!

Ty Red... good to see you. I would like to know how much would you charge for the dragon chess pieces only and with opposite eye color? Ex: black dragons with white eyes, White dragons with black eyes. I have plenty of leather to make a board or a Resin chessboard. Just wondering. I do like the dye you used. Very vibrant and even. 👍🏾

I would need to do some maths about it, and take into consideration the time and cost of resin if you really want one. Send me an email theredsmith@hotmail.com and we can discuss it but honestly, buying a set in a store would be way cheaper :) Thanks for watching!

Hi awesome set…how do you add more weight to pieces- possibly fillling with metal or casting in metal somehow? Also how did you find the original design to sculpt form , did you just take another piece from another set and replicate it/scan it?

Thanks. The link to the set I bought is in the video description. You can add some weight in modifying the desigbn or glueing something to the bottom of the piece. Hope it helps, thanks for watching!
