Very Nice!, really great to see this one. Now if Federal Premium would just make some of this unobtianum expensive ammo. 😀 Pretty amazing the LCP 2.75" barrel - no expansion and 14"depth, and the G42 3.25" barrel had full expansion and 18". Amazing how just a 1/2" more barrel can make all the difference. Expansion seems right on the line with the 2.75". I'm glad I bought a 3.42" barrel Ruger Security. These HST "deep" should be rated at 1030fps rating from Federal, probably with a much longer barrel. The only way to know any more, is a larger sample size and some chrono readings. These "Deep" Federal HST's and the Critical Duty Hornady seem to be the only commercial HP ammo in 380 that seems to get the penetration job done to me. Of course 2 of the most costly. I think the XTP's would as well if loaded to your guns barrel length for sure. The Underwood Extreme series seems to work well in everything and seems pretty barrier blind for 380. I almost forgot- The Atomic 380acp hollowpoint seems very good also, from your testing, but is also impossible to find. Underwood's Lehigh Defense/Wilson Combat, extreme series of solid copper loadings seem to be our best available choice right now, at least for me. They are so revolutionary Bill Wilson/Wilson Combat, bought LeHigh Defense for these bullet designs and patents.

I'll figure out the best way to set that Chrono eventually. I meant to bring a box of fmj to the range and forgot. Throwing $1/Rd ammo down range just to get no read or errors didn't make much sense after awhile. In short, I 'should' be able to provide more data in the near future.

Last time I saw these tested they clogged with heavy clothing! Definitely want something consistent. I carry extreme defender +p in my S&W bodyguard! Yes precision one +p XTPs are 35$ for 50 Good test👍🏻

I have Precision One +p 380 for my Glock 42 and I must say they are very good. Ammoquest tested all 380 loads for smaller semi auto's. PO won until Underwood solid copper was tested. My problem is these solid copper offerings tend to have bullet setback even after one racking. That's a problem for over pressure.

Probably the best .380acp ammunition ever developed.

I wouldn't say that too loud or Federal will for sure discontinue it.... Like 38 micro HST, 147 HST + P....

This is why under the correct calibration the XTP bullets while using micro pistols works the best.

I plan to pick up the precision One xtp +p for future tests. The company says they're designed for the G42 specifically.

I agree. I think the Hornady xtp is best because they have small expansion compared to other jhp and it helps it perform best.

This is excellent and much needed info and I appreciate your posting the vid. Just a couple of friendly hints. Talk about calibration is good, but don't spennd SO much time on it. And try not to hem and haw so much with unscripted descriptions of what you are doing. And please don't do the camera while walking around as it makes me seasick. You sound like you have a bad cold, so hope you feel better.

For anyone interested I picked up some two days ago from AEAMMO. They shipped to my door. Only place I found that had some.

Interesting load and testing. This bullet looks like it doesnt actually epand the lead much but instead relies on expansion of the bullet jacket. As 380 loads go it did pretty well but I still dont know that I would actually trust it in a LCP length barrel.

Honestly not really. Though I never planned to test 380 until I picked up a couple of them cheap. At this point I won't rule anything out.

Calibration means next to nothing in the context of the Clear Ballistics Gel project vs. bona fide ordinance gelatin since the graphs I've seen show no linear relationship between penetration in the two media over various velocities.

I carry a 3.68 inch .380 EZ. Of you get that good of penetration with those shorter barrels, I figure that hydra shock deep round would be a good carry round for me.

In-terms of performance, what do you think of comparison between the Hydra Shok Deep vs the Punch?

I think pretty even overall. G42(3.25") or bigger I'd go with the Deep mostly due to the heavier projectile. I'm not convinced I'd trust either with any shorter barrel.

what was the distance you were shooting from? how far from the target?

I recently picked up a nice used S&W Bodyguard 380. I have a box of these 99gr Hydra Shoks. I haven't fired any of them yet. Are they reliable in your pistol?

P-ONE 90g HP/XTP in .380 Highly rated for Ruger LCP, LCP Custom, LCP II. Lots of you tube tests. My EDC in my LCPII. Better than these .380 Hydra shok deep and HST for the LCP Line.

The 380 HST didn't test well for me when I put it up against the Fed Punch. In 9mm I agree completely with HST as a top performer.

HST 124 gr +p is my 9 mm carry round. They don’t penetrate deep enough in 380!
