I'm surprised they were fit enough to move by rail and not scrapped on site

Sad to see them go like that. They'd make great DVTs on preserved railway lines that don't have run-around loops.

They have certainly been at Hellifield for about 15 years. They aren't DVT's but if my memory is correct they were Propelling control vehicles to allow TPO's to reverse into the distribution centre at Willesden. Just very minimaI controls, I had heard that West Coast bought them for the bogies and wheels.

They’ve been there for actually 21 years and yes you’re right about WCR wanting them for wheel sets and potentially vehicles they could store parts in. Withdrawn and stored at Hellifield in 2002…. Till around 2014 they were kept behind a thick hedge so vandals couldn’t get to them if I remember. Then WCR stupidly cut the hedge back giving vandals full access to the units. Surprised they were allowed to be towed by rail rather than lorry or scrapped on site. Shame on their condition and not being able to be restored. Other things that prevented restoration were cost and mostly the vehicles were covered in contaminated/disturbed asbestos.

All 10 to be stripped for parts, but it's mainly the bogies that will be saved. Something at least. JG.
