37294 startup 13th Feb 2010
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
Here we have 37294 starting up for the first time this year, she hasnt been started since last years diesel gala so after filling her with water and repairing a few minor water leaks (loose jubilee clips) we pressed the button and this is what happened,"A" bank looks very smoky and its white suggesting either the timing is out on this bank or a few injectore need swopping, saying that once warm everything clears up,the hissing you can hear is an unseated decompression valve which probably happened because we cracked them all open to do a pre startup engine bar over to check for cylinder water ingress but none came out so we tightened them all back up but one seemed to be leaking,it has since been repaired, enjoy

Excellent sound capture ! Starting to really like these Class 37's,thanks for sharing.
amazing footage to see the pressure of the exhaust so close
Love EE diesels, one pot at a time......
Love the Stars In Their Eyes joke.
When I was a fireman for BR 1974 eastfield traction depot Glasgow the class 37s were never shut down in the winter could never get the buggers started again

Yes same as Bescot in the 80s, the locals complained they couldn't sleep
Great video...
She starts a little better than this now Dave since we have done the timing on A bank
@31144 All your videos are so funny with the banter between obvious friends. I bet you lads all have a good laugh and a lot of fun! Watch the Hudswell Clarke start up video. The lad from Liverpool had me pissing myself with laughter. Many, many thanks lads..
wooo. me lords! i love 37 start ups :D
Love it
who left the compression release open?
0:20 Listen to the music :p loool, nice cold start !
Nice !
I do like EE diesels cold starting. One cylinder at a time.......
@goodchappy They do,the only ones that have starter motors (X2) are the ETH 4's,/5's,/6's,/7's,/8's and /9's or all commonly known as "heavyweights, thats because the have alternators instead of generators

Actually, not quite. Those are all refurbished but only the /7, /8 were heavyweights as these had a lump of iron put in. The idea was to give them the haulage capability of a Class 56
They could have done with that when they invaded Normandy, excellent smokescreen generator! 5*
More CO in 5 minutes, than my car emits in a whole year!
Please can someone "in the know" tell me, some of the class 37's have horrid sounding starters whereas some you can't really hear anything apart from the pop and hiss of the exhaust smoke etc. Do those use the generator to start the engine?

As far as I know they have a sort of “dynostart” set up where batteries can power the generator to run as a motor and once the starter is released the engine is then driving the generator. I’m no authority but I think that’s how they’re started. Usually that sound is quite quiet. The hissing sounds to me like leaky cylinder drains/decompressors and the kind of creaking is most likely a combination of the injectors injecting diesel and a huge piston compressing it but not quite firing. Dont think you need telling what the pop is!
No one left it open,we think it unseated over the winter with a little water behind it,when we first went for a start I loosened it but it but it wouldnt re seat ,once we warmed the engine up and shut it down it came out a lot easier,I had to re tap the holder and clean the thread on the plug though, all is now well
Very unusual vantage point. Was this motor actually running, or just being cranked. There seemed to be more unburned diesel than exhaust coming out, and one bank did not seem to be firing at all. They have got to start up better than this, surely.

Graham Bentley The timing was out on A bank (the fog machine) a decompression plug was unseated (the hiss, hiss, hiss),it was about -7 degrees and the batteries where an old set off a Class 47
A bit of clag here and there, nothing much- Wait- Where the yard go? :D
Take this Green Peace!!
Why is one blowdown valve wide open ??
@31144
2 жыл бұрын
It's not wide open, it's unseated, the loco had been out of action for some time so it had probably unseated it's self, I nipped it up for the second start up
