Thank you so much for showing us how to do this in a way that was easy and clear to follow. I hadn't made a square like this before and was really pleased that it made sense all the way through. I decided to come back to this tutorial when I saw a turtle applique and wanted to turn that into a square, so I followed the turtle pattern from someone else and then followed your technique to work out the rest and it turned out quite well. :)

I have to tell you, I hate hate hate the bullion stitch, BUT, the result is fantastic. I am making a scarf for a friend. I showed her your page with all the squares, and she chose 5 as her absolute favourites. I chose 240 and 241 out of them, and that will be the scarf! ( 6x240 and only 3x241, because I can't make the bullion on public transport, which is the only time I have to crochet). I also make a huge double bed blanket making one huge number 1. Thank you!

For anyone struggling with Bullion stitches - get a latch hook. $5-10 will prevent crochet rage and make Bullion stitches enjoyable. Or search KZread for easy Bullion stitches, it involves sticky taping 2 crochet hooks together but makes bullion stitches a lot easier. It’s a low tech solution but will stop you swearing about bullion stitches - but trust me on the latch hook, it makes them enjoyable. I skipped #46 square because the double round of bullion stitches was a nightmare and too hard. After getting the latch hook I went back and did it with ease.

You're my favorite person right now. Thank you for the latch hook tip - I ran out to get one as soon as I realized how fiddly the B4 stitches are, and the latch hooks makes SUCH a difference!

Loosing up a bit helped but I still pulled some off. I am enjoying learning this new stitch and my oldest granddaughter wants a snail blanket so guess I'll be getting lots of practice. Love how you go slow enough and explain each step. Thanks, you've definitely gained a follower!
