I purchased the SC200 with the intent of working on mid-short iron yardage to attack pins by knowing my number with each club. It was great in theory. The 1st time I tried it, I was hitting off a mat into a net. From 5 iron - PW it read 20-30 yards less than I normally hit. The 2nd time I went to the range, hitting to flags from 60-175 yards, it again was 20-30 yards off. The 3rd time I went to the 150 plate and hit into a green. The SC200 was reading 130-138 yards where my pitch marks were 150-160 yards. As for driver, it shows I hit my 6 iron further. That being said I have contacted Voice Caddie and so far they have been more than helpful to try to resolve and recalibrate my device.

Great video Rick, I've had an SC200 for about 6 months and it's great to see this comparison. The "Approach" mode where it gives random distances and scores you on how close you get is really good and makes it competitive... overall, I think it's very good value (works best on a range rather than indoors)

  • @krups06
    @krups065 жыл бұрын

Rick, please try using the SC200 with the bay door open for shots over 170. I suspect that the SC200's single radar needs more data points (flight time) for those faster shots.

So I just bought this and tried it for the first time yesterday and put it vs trackman. I found it pretty accurate with a 7 iron. Speed and carry were very close. With driver it was never close. I don't swing as fast as you - 103-106, but it would consistently be 4+mph slow and 20-40 yards short. Not sure I am going to keep it. I'll try a little longer.

I actually bought this monitor about a year ago. I love it! as Rick implied, it does have some imperfections, but there is a setting on it for pitch shots between 50-100 yards that is fun on the range and gives good feedback. it does get confused on some shots at longer ranges, but based on the feel of the ball off of the clubface, you can tell its wrong. what Rick didn't tell you, is that it tracks data and will give you average carry, low carry, long carry, and also total distance, low distance, high distance seen by each club in your bag. It's $350, take it for what its worth, and that's the feedback. not a bad unit all in all! Great video Rick! keep up the good work!

I think I'm going to buy one (or similar), the local course has a GC2 for more advanced analysis, but I go to the range 1-2 times a week and I really like the idea of something like this to spice things up a bit, even if it has limited use. I can also try different swing paths etc and get some idea of how that impacts the shot as my game is far from settled due to being new. My only concern is this unit has been out for 3 years! and there must be something better out there for a sub £500 price point. If not now, very soon, in which case, these units will likely crash in value. There is a MEVO from flightscope too, which costs a bit more, but its newer, my only concern with that unit is I believe you have to put metal dots on the ball similar to GC2+HMT so I don't fancy that. For those looking at a cheaper alternatives of similar ilk, try researching the ES12, or the SC100. They are cheaper and might provide similar grade results and definitely lower prices. Especially if you can get a 2nd hand unit. There is an ES14 unit too which was 700+ a few years ago (now around the 400 mark), so you would think that would still be an upgrade over this for not a load more money.

SkyTrak is a pretty good photometric devise, but you are likely looking at $1,600 for the devise only. There are many levels of cost and really depends on what you want. If you go top level, you need to add mat, screens, nets, software for courses, number of courses you want, etc- all that can costs about $6,000. There are plenty of reviews out there to Google.

Yeah I had a skytrak but sold it. It doesn’t work well with driver, but worked great with irons. And I agree, it sometimes didn’t pick up shots. The biggest drawback for me is you need a dedicated gaming laptop/computer to get the good software. The software with the iPad was not good at all. You can’t even play multiplayer with the simulation software on iPad. It overall wasn’t really worth the price for me. Paid about 3,000 for net, mat, and device. Save your money and get lots of lessons from pros.

  • @petermartucci6534

Awesome video Rick. I actually purchased this unit based on the advice from Clay Ballard who also recommended it and put it up against his Trackman. However, he didn't go into the detail regarding the longer yardage shots and I also wondered why I couldn't seem to increase my swing speed, or when I did, the SC wouldn't change the distance, it pretty much hovered around 250 yards. Yesterday it actually tracked one of my driver hits at 333 yards with the same swing speed. Having said that though, it has helped me tremendously with my irons as that is where I believe the most important shots are in our bag. Everyone wants to crush 300 yard drives, but those make no difference if you can't choose the proper club for the right distance to the pin and I've found that the SC does that for me. I would recommend that folks use this device each time they go to the range as it does seem to do a pretty good job when the weather changes, so for instance when it's cold, the ball doesn't travel as far and I could see my distances were shorter on colder days with the SC. Also, if it's really hot or sunny, I found I have to place my bag near the unit for shade as it will shut down if it gets too hot. But that is no different that any piece of electronic just like a cell phone. All in all, I love my SC and it has helped me immensely not only knowing my distances, but giving me the confidence when I'm hitting the shot. That is priceless when playing a par three or shot over water where you need to carry the ball an exact distance to avoid the hazard, yet land on the green. Thanks again for your review!

I have the older SC100 Voice Caddy and I love it. The remote works from at least four feet away so I wonder if you were just too close to it. You can use it hitting in a cage or into a net and you can also take it to the driving range. It gives you carry distance only and does not track side-spin on the ball but it gives enough feedback to be worth it for me, mainly distance, swing speed, and ball speed.

Im confident in it with all my irons which is about 200 yards. Once I use a fw or driver and my SS really gets faster that's when I take the results with a grain of salt.

This is so easy to research. This will answer your questions: kzread.info/dash/bejne/mnuYy7tveNKoqqg.html In short, a radar based system is best used outside where the radar can track the ball longer. GC Quad is photometric (which uses cameras to obtain data as the ball is struck) and therefore distance to net makes no difference. I recommend you subscribe to TGG Tour Experience whose golf videos are a Gold Standard of KZread golf sites.

I think it is important to understand that the SC200 is only measuring club head speed and ball speed. It doesn't "know" anything about the path that the ball has taken after leaving the clubface. It seems to just calculate a carry distance based on the loft of the club (which the user inputs) i.e. "A ball hit properly off the face of a club with a 28 degree loft at 110 mph will travel "X" yards" But it doesn't know if you hit it thin or fat. Or as Rick pointed out, if you de-lofted or added loft to your club. It only knows ball speed. This works well for golfers who pretty consistently hit the ball with a solid, center of the clubface, strike. For high handicappers with inconsistent ball strikes it is pretty useless. I am a 32 handicap, bought one thinking it could help me dial in the distances on my irons, it was not up to that job. But I gave it to a 7 handicap friend of mine in Thailand. She absolutely loves it because it accurately measures and projects the distance of a "well-struck" golf ball.

The Flightscope Mevo costs $450 (currently offered $50 off), and adds additional data to what the SC200 offers. However, the set-up for Mevo is considerably more complicated and necessary for accuracy. I got the SC200 because I just want to set the unit down and practice without putting on stickers, re-aligning for every club and insuring I hit the ball from the exact distance called for. I own the sc220 and have tested the it against a Trackman and had excellent results with the driver which was within 2 mph swing speed. This test was done on a range rather than inside. My issue with the unit is with wedges. I fine that the readings are about 10 yards longer than known distances when hitting full or less than full shots. You cannot hit open face shots since you are changing the launch angle. Expensive launch monitors measure true launch angle where the SC220 relies on the user entered club loft for launch angle. Overall for $300 (what I paid) it is an excellent produce. I use it to experiment with different swings trying to increase speed as well as working on maintaining a consistent swing speed with irons.

Rick this is a HUGE video that I've been wondering and thinking of for years! The cost isn't even a fraction - it's more like a crumb. I have a friend who has a swing simulator, I also have family who has a trackman and a way to all the information needed... and I'm also a student of GolfTec here in the United States. The past couple of years seeing Pro golfers using a TrackMan before their round or a big tournament isn't something that's uncommon to see. Dustin Johnson runs it with his wedges everyday, it's truly amazing to see. May not with the an every day weekend grinder, but an amateur who wants to make it in golf... may just not have the money for a trackman or gcq... But very interesting to see the numbers and how you compared this. I agree with comments below, I would use other options that are out there. Thanks again and great video!

I bought one today and went straight to the range. However before the purchase I had a session with the pro at golf galaxy and established distances, club speed and ball speed. Then went to the range and found the numbers to be very similar. The main benefit I found was establishing a consistent swing speed which made the rest of the swing elements more consistent. Next test will be on the course where I’ll test distances against gps.

I Bought the swing caddie for myself at the beginning of this summer. I absolutely love it. I use it at my driving range cause the range doesn’t have the best distance markers and everything I’ve seen has been basically dead on. The only times it’s super far off is if you duff a shot, hit a flop shot, catch it extremely thin, or hit a stinger. I hit my driver about 260 and it works like a charm for all my longer clubs. I think it just needs more time to get a read on the ball because of how fast the ball travels off the long clubs

Coming back to leave a review for you (and really anyone else who is here) about the Swing Caddie. Got one over the spring and used it in my garage during the pandemic when courses were closed (and the weather was awful) here in Chicago. Well I've finally taken it to the course and can't believe my eyes.....this thing has been spot on three out of four times! I mean, seriously. We scoped a par 3 at 143 yesterday, the Swing Caddie voiced "147" and I said there was no way because I really thought I hit my 8-iron short. Low and behold: the ball was four paces past the hole. I lipped out the birdie putt but not the point, at least here. For the $250 I think I paid, the Swing Caddie is awesome. Use at a driving range it can really help people dial in distances. And no, I don't work for the company:)
