I was Kilo 3/5 with the 31st MEU. We went to Guam for the 50th commeration of the liberation of Guam and did a sunset parade for the Marines who fought on that island. After the parade we drank beers with World War 2 Marines. One of the greatest honors I ever experienced.

My first and only unit, it was a pleasure serving alongside a great team, Green and Blue side. 5 Years assigned with the 31st MEU. You will never get a better Team like them. Stay Lethal!

A Marine Expeditionary Unit is comprised of several units. A Ground Combat Element (infantry, engineers, light armor), Logistics Combat Element, Command Element, and an Aviation Combat Element. MEUs carry about 2000+ Marines, several hundred of which are infantry and the rest being support personnel (administrative, intel, public affairs, mechanics, pilots, engineers, etc). Each MEU is slightly different due to the need to have differing amount of people and equipment to meet their specific deployments in different regions. MEUs are capable of responding to a variety of missions such as Embassy reinforcement, humanitarian aide and disaster relief, forcible entry from the sea, peace keeping missions and more. There is quite literally nothing in the world like the MEU. It is completely self sustainable and self contained. They can work in conjunction with the rest of the DoD or by themselves due to their capacity to carry everything and anything. They are THE premiere crisis response capability for the Nation. MEUs are NOT special operations troops. Special Operations troops carry different authorities and permissions to carry out their mission, hence the 'special' in their names
