Their is a misconception that White was better because it took him less games to get to 198 sacks. Bruce faced Dan Marino twice a year, a quarterback who had the quickess release in football and still sacked him 11 times over his career. I say, White never played in an 3-4 defense (with only 3 down lineman). White also had the benefit of playing next to 300 lb All-Pro Jerome Brown and always played in a 4-4 scheme. Players like Deacon Jones also benefited from playing with defensive line All Pros Olsen, Lundy and Grier known as the "Fearsome Foursome". In addition a chop block blew out Smith's knee in 1991 and he missed most of that season. He still came back from that injury to make 1st Team All Pro the next year.

The thing I still can't believe after watching the 30 for 30 on the Bills was how Hoschetdler from the Giants held onto that ball when Bruce sacked him in the endzone for a safety when it looked like in almost any case that would have been a fumble in the endzone. It's such a shame that I missed watching so many great football players before I really understood the game since I was born in 1991, so I didn't really know how good Bruce Smith, Reggie White, and Lawrence Taylor were until they were retired.

Agree he's up there with Lawrence Taylor and Reggie White. Complete freak of nature that dominated, and his stats back that up. Smith was unstoppable in his prime.

“Don’t depend on anyone else” a mindset so simple, yet absent in today’s NFL. they either blame, lie, beg, or exert their frustrations physically. Why? bad sportsmanship.

You're lying to yourself if you think there's 30 players better than him. Would be a $30M/yr player today and win DPOY award every year easily. I always thought he was somehow underrated and overlooked. This #31 ranking really solidifies that.
