Brady, Montana, Marino and maybe Manning and Unitas should be higher rated QB's, but Young ought to be higher than most any other QB. He is criminally underrated. He destroyed passing titles, half of which with a mediocre run game and O line. And that doesn't even begin to measure his scrambling and improvisational skills.

Prime Steve Young you could argue is right up there with the best ever. His ability to run the ball as well as be an elite passer. Had one of the best Superbowls ever. He just didn't get to play for long. He got a late start as a starting QB(sat behind Montana), and then an early retirement because of injuries/concussions.

49ers have a bunch of guys in the top 15, including Jerry Rice as #1- Steve Young is a great QB, but he's not on the top of the mountain- he's at that 2nd level along with guys like Jim Kelly Troy Aikaman and Kurt Warner. And he's only there because he has won a ring in the 94 season all by his lonesome. If he never won that lombardi in 94, he would be in the 3rd level with guys like Donovan McNabb, Rich Gannon and Steve McNair.

Aikman better than Young? lol There is no way that Aikman should be ranked better than Young using a one on one comparison. Comparing their stats is a joke. Young's career passer rating is 15 points higher than Troy's, he has 67 more TD passes and 34 less INT's than Troy as well as 43 rushing TD's to Troy's 9. Troy may have played for better teams for a few years in the early 90's, but that doesn't make Troy better.

Troy played in a totally different offense, which was mainly built around Emmitt Smith and the running game. He won't have the same stats as Young, who's offense was built around the passing game. If Young played in Dallas, he would have produced different stats. Both are legends so saying one is better than the other is pointless.

No way Steve Young is #81, put him maybe #20-25, but not #81. BTW, Steve Young's Superbowl performance is unparalleled, 7 TD passes, even Joe Cool only had 5 or 6. Had the Niners stayed healthy in 96 and 97, chances are he would have had a second ring to go with the first one.

Thank you Steve for being so patient to wait behind Montana. Young was intelligent, could throw in the pocket and run like a mofo. Steve Young lost 6-7 years with the USFL and sitting behind Joe Montana. With those lost years and the 49ers he would own every quarterback record & won several more Superbowls. If Steve Young played into today’s NFL he would destroy the league. Steve Young is criminally underrated and should be in the top 20.

To think he was 8th string QB at BYU and Homesick. Then rose to what he did at BYU. Always getting better, as he pushed himself through his whole career. His dad was a good but tough dad. Made him think, work hard, be prepared. Jim McMahon ( another awesome legend at BYU and Chicago Bears taught him at BYU how to throw a tight spiral( as he up to that point had a hard time. Then to me still through the tightest and prettiest one) As being a BYU fan Steve among others helped lift the image of the School's Football program. Was also a great example of our faith to the world and we were and are proud of him.. He wouldnt cash his checks as a back up QB until he was forced to I think it was like 9 months worth lol. As he felt he didnt really earn them... To catch recent shows with Steve see BYUtv sports show when he is on ( KZread) Like many we could hear him talk all day...
