What made Steve great was he was old school. I will never forget his last play when he was knocked out against Cardinals. As soon as he woke up, he grabbed his helmet and went to the sideline on his own. People were trying to assist and acted like, "Get the hell away from me." And then he got pissed off when they wouldn't put him back into the game. After he was knocked out! Truth his, he needed to retire. But he had zero regard for his own body. He'd take a lick just to get another 4 yards. You rarely saw defensive players resort to trash talking because they knew it would just piss him off and it would have zero influence on him trying to take on a linebacker the next play

These were the BEST days of football. I remember as a kid following Steve's uphill battle to get to the Big Game. Those were the days when you lived and died with your QB and you rallied around him every week in and out. You felt those losses as hard as they did. Today it seems nobody stays on a team long enough to ride that wave with their fans. When Steve finally won a championship, I remember feeling like we all won it, even though I've never met him and he has no idea who I am, it was a great ride. I truly miss those days!! He was definitely my idle growing up in sports.

I was so fortunate to have been born in Ft.Worth Texas where i have lived for 68 years.Lots of relatives tv always on sports. I was six years old when Texas Schramm,Clint Murchison and All NFL All of Fame Coach Thomas Landry and Gil Brandt came to start the Dallas Cowboys from scratch. NFL Football is the only game. I witnessed the changes implemented to this game we have today. It’s called parity. The inferior teams screamed for it back then for years. Your viewing it. The man who vigorously pushed for tape review was Tex . So many bad calls in critical points in the game it finally became evident. The oldest franchises fought it tooth and nail! I know a lot of y’all hate my Cows but the innovation and many huge changes came because of our Owner and who he hired.

I love Steve Young. I grew up watching the 49ers go from one of the worst teams in the league, to what I think was the greatest team ever. My brother and I each got a season ticket as our Christmas present every year and saw some of the greatest games ever in person. We never got lucky enough to get picked to go to the Super Bowl, but I got a SB ticket and flew to Florida and saw Steve Young throw 6 TD’s in just 3 quarters. He could have thrown a couple more if they left him in the game. Watching the 49ers go from one Hall of Fame QB to another was something that I’ll never forget.

Mr Young would probably be the GOAT

Joe played in an era where there was no quarterback and receiver protection like there is today. There was also no salary cap, so playoff teams back the in the 80's were way more talented than they are today. Brady still hasn't blown out a team in any of his super bowl wins. Average margin of victory is less than 5 points. Joe didn't possess a rocket arm. He had the skinniest legs of any NFL player I have ever seen. He wasn't tall. He didn't possess as much natural talent as you think. A lot of people thought Walsh was nuts for picking Montana where he did. Young had better arm strength than Montana and he could run like a running back. Not that he didn't study hard as well.

@Matt Beeman Favre was an athletic marvel, blessed with a murderously strong arm and a body that could seemingly withstand being struck by a freight train. But career longevity isn't much of a yardstick for assessing a QB. And Favre, for all of his talent, was a rather poor decision-maker on the field. This, IMO, is the main reason his playoff record is so lackluster - he seemed to demonstrate a knack for folding against postseason-quality defenses. Don't get me wrong; I agree wholeheartedly that he was a well above average QB, and quite entertaining. But when people mention him along with history's all time great QBs...yeah, then he's overrated.
