🧐 CASE: Abdominal aorta in a patient who attended AE for onset of abdominal pain.
🗒 Try to understand whether the aorta presents an abnormal diameter, what shape is the aorta, whether there is any wall abnormalities and whether the aorta is patent. What is a normal diameter of the abdominal aorta? What is the definition of an abdominal aortic aneurysm?
👩‍⚕️👨‍⚕️CASE SOLUTION: Patent, fusiform, infrarenal abdominal aortic aneurysm with maximum antero posterior maximum diameter measuring 5.57 cm with presence of significant amount of mural thrombus and with patent residual maximum AP diameter of 1.8 cm.
When describing an aneurysm it is important to report on the location, shape, maximum AP diameter, presence of arterial walls abnormalities and whether involves any of the aortic branches and common iliac arteries.
