30 Minute Yoga for Olympic Lifters | Hips & Ankles

Ойын-сауық

Continuing our series for Olympic Weightlifters, this 30 minute yoga practice is for hips and ankles to help increase mobility which should be helpful for your lifts like cleans, squats and snatches. I'm using a yoga strap and a thick blanket as props in this video and recommend you use the same. If you don't have a strap, just use a belt or a tie from your house.
This video is brought to you by Clever yoga, who sent the yoga mat I'm using in the video: amzn.to/1KU7JF4

Ah this sesh hit the hammer on the nail. I am a new teacher deployed right now with the Army and I often use your videos to inspire and enlighten my practice. My mentor left about a month ago so at first it was king of scary to take on the challenge of teaching but with your calming voice and guidance I have been able to enrich my own practice to teach better to other soldiers. So thank you for that, so far this and the back pain class are my favorite seeing as my back is almost gone from all this gear. Keep up the amazing videos and thank you from across the world. -Namaste Jorden.

+Jorden McPherson Woah, Jorden, totally blown away by this comment. Please don't thank me, it's the least I can do. I am so grateful to you for serving, and so happy to hear that the vids have been helpful to your practice. Thank you for stepping up and teaching the others when your mentor left, and thank you for your service.

just started following your videos a few weeks ago. I'm a carpenter and train the Olympic lifts so these videos for lifters are perfect. They've really helped my mobility and eased a lot of aches and soreness. thank you! I'll be sharing your channel with others.

Thanks for the video. I have been coaching Weightlifting a long time and have been fortunate enough to coach some of the best lifters in the U.S. and abroad. I will recommend this video to every lifter who needs to work on lower body mobility. Without Mobility there is no stability. Stability proceeds force production so weightlifters who skip mobility work will become as useless as firing a canon in a canoe. I've been doing Yoga for a month now and the difference in that one month is night and day.

Heck yeah! Thanks so much for the feedback. I 100% agree - not only do lifters need mobility, but yogis need weightlifting. Flexibility without strength is like a car with no brakes. You must have control, which is why I advocate for both. Thanks so much for the support and spreading the word about this video. I appreciate it!

I posted on your blog, but I'm not sure if you read comments from articles further back. I've been lifting half my life at this point, and always have had really great mobility, but the last several months I feel myself tightening up as I hit my mid-30s. I've been a fan of your other videos, and this whole series was just perfectly timed for what I needed. Thank you so much, and thank you for all the free content you put on YT and other places. Definitely makes supporting the sponsored products an easier decision.

+Accipiter22 Thank you so much for taking the time to leave a message and for the kind words. I'm so glad this is helpful. I don't know if you've downloaded the app I have, but there's a playlist called 'Yoga for Olympic Lifters' and I put a bunch of other yoga vids that are helpful for my fellow lifters in there as well. Just search 'yogabycandace' (no spaces) in the app store.

Thanks for this! I did this and your chest and shoulder one, and I already feel a change in my overhead squat position. Feels more stable and natural. Love it! How often do you suppose one should do this when they're lifting about six days a week and squatting 3-4 days a week?

you've made my DAY for letting me know! I would do this two to three times a week if you're doing that much heavy lifting. When you get bored with it, you should try some yin. That is by far the best way to develop more mobility. Google 'yogabycandace yin yoga' and you'll find a bunch of options. :)

Thank you for the video. I had to increase the volume on my computer to the max, as I unfortunately found that the video's volume was quite low. Perhaps a "lapel mic" would be helpful to capture your voice better. I like your reference to 2 lines of energy, and hands growing out of one's knees. Interesting visual cues.
