Went From Michigan to Georgia and back. Roughly 1300 miles. Towed for about 650 of them, about 2k lbs. truck was powerful and basically drove itself. I love my Custom Trail Boss. Affordable, off-road package, 4WD,$42k.

🎉congratulations man! My 2022 custom has all the standard features due to me being fortunate finding a refreshed 2.7L turbo. Fuel economy is great with mine. Being in El Paso TX I’m getting about 21-22 mpg on highway and 19-20 city. About to reach 4000 and no complaints about it and have had no issues since owning the truck. Great choice in my opinion glad your happy with the Silverado.

I got the same MPG with a nissan titan when I lived in EL Paso. Are you having the turbos spin up alot when you press on the gas? I m curious because I think going forward with trucks the engine will be a 4 or 6 cylinder with turbo in the future.

  • @richardsmith8370

@@kellydegler2676 I’ve not had any trouble with spinning with my turbo when I’m accelerating. I recommend the 4 cylinder you’ll get one of the best fuel economy ratings and the truck itself is very nice simple and bigger feeling than most trucks out there. The Ford 2.7L ecoboost V6 is the same case as the 4 cylinder just the 4 has better fuel economy and torque.

Jay, glad you find what you are looking for, a reliable daily driving truck with no issues and the fuel economy you are looking for. I’ve been following you for the longest time and after watching this video you help me realize couple of things. 1. I dont need a 4WD truck. I live in Florida no snow, no mountains. 2. I don’t need AT tires, I don’t do off-roading, never done it and not gonna start now. 3. I was thinking on trade in my 2022 GMC Canyon Elevation for the new 2023 Canyon, but I am not gonna pay over $45K for a midsize truck. So I am keeping my 2022 V6 Canyon, one mod I will do is adding a 2.5” front leveling kit and black smoke my taillights. Jay keep enjoy that beautiful Silverado brother, my Canyon is in the same sterling gray color.

Gorgeous choice bought the same truck but it’s a Lt2fl so it has the big radio 4x4 colored matched door handles heated wheel n seats very Well loaded out the door for 47. The 2.7 to me is actually very impressive, I and my whole family are truck people that’s all we own Every motor of every brand ever made literally and we all trade every 2/3 years. I’ve personally owned every Chevy motor built in trucks caurberated tbi efi vortec ls in every displacement. I’m telling you this 2.7 4 cylinder is an excellent motor for a half ton truck it shines in town and doing work.very pleased and was extremely hesitant but very satisfied in the end.

agreed.. unfortunately most of the real trucks out there that are "4WD" operate in 2WD 99% of the time, but can shift to 4 when it's needed. Nothing new there. Just not crazy about GM's, or any other maker's, cylinder deactivation feature. especially on a 4 banger.. Can't they leave that alone?

I think going to a 2 wheel drive will get you a additional 2 mpg or so. I think you might have a lower rear gear ratio with the 4x4 also. I have a couple of 2022 GMC with the HO 2.7 turbo and love them. Mine are short box regular cab 4x4 and ended up getting them in the pro version for under 40K in the Pro version. I am seeing about 17 mpg city in winter driving and about 19.5 hiway. It will get better once we get off winter fuel up here in the great white north.

Just picked up a 2023 last Monday in 4 wheel drive, Rally/Blacked out Edition, and love it!! I stayed away from the 11" infotainment as well and don't regret it at all. I felt all the bells/whistles were nice but unnecessary and too much of a distraction. My neighbor asked if my truck was in the 70-80k range.

First thing i did was get the rear wheel well inserts from Husky about $120 on Scamazon so i can worry less about rust in 5 years living in the north east. Tail, license plate and reverse lights all changes to led to i can actually see backing up. Thanks for the video, truck has treated me well in the past 12 hundred miles.

Right now I put Chevy on the top for looks, not bragging but I get a honest 20.4 on my 2017 F150 Crew with 2.7, of course it don’t have the Torque your truck produces, I’d love to see what I could get driving the Chevy, cause I’m a grandpa and drive like one! I have the 1st Gen 2.7 in the 2020 GMC Elevation 2x4 monochromatic black loaded with Tow Package intergraded brake. Our travel trailer and gear + passengers total payload 6,500 lbs. Now 15K miles towing capturing 10.2-10.5 mpg's @ 62-64 mph which is good. Around town here in Miami, FL mostly city driving stop & go 18mpg's moderately driving. Now from Key Largo, FL to Big Pine Key, FL avg speed 48 mph 29.9 MPG's. Yes I was going slow. But what Halfton other then a Duramax can capture 29.9mpg's even at 48 mph. My hwy driving 72-74 mph I get 19-20mpg's. I also like how light a nimble this truck drives as a daily. Love the Bridgestone Alenza A/S 02 All Season 275/60R20 115S Passenger Tire are awesome. Their designed to tow, they have a max fill for load of 40PSI. My second set, I had gone over debris and took out 2 tires lol And went and bought this set again at Walmart for $150 a tire when their $210 a tire.

Nice truck and good video , I did pretty much the same thing . I bought a 22 refreshed Silverado LTZ 4wd last year , beautiful truck , first problem is the integrated trailer brake controller failed and of course gm didn’t have a fix for it yet , I found out it didn’t work while pulling my camper on a 300 mile trip . They say they have a fix for it now though, the next problem was about 3 weeks ago on my way to work at 8000 miles the number 2 injector failed , and there are no parts available. So after a few days I called my salesman and traded it for a 22 refreshed Silverado Custom with the 2.7 and 4wd. Almost exactly like your truck and I really like the truck and I installed my own trailer brake controller which does work, engine runs great I get over 20 mpg easily and have about 25 k less debt. Good for you , I’m the same way I’m not paying 65 k for something with problems . Have a good weekend 🙂 Bob.

Nice Truck! I hope the engine holds up. Every oil Engineer on the Tube, says to change your oil at the first 500 miles, and then more often with a turbo. Oil is cheap insurance, IMO. I am an old guy and have a 22, Sierra AT4 with the 6.2. I just don’t drive much so I don’t feel the pain at the pump. I think with street tires and a front air dam I could get 20+ on the highway. Keep posting your experience!

Nice truck man. I bought a 5.3 LT with the 10-Speed (2WD) for the same price as you bought this Custom 2.7. Happy to report I’m getting anywhere from 412-430 miles in it with the highest being just around 520 miles road-tripping across TX. The V8 just shines at 80 MPH. It was weird watching the Gas mileage stand still as we drove-on. It’s what we bought it for though. Our 4Cyl. Tucson was only getting about 320 miles max on road-trips. I am also Happy to say I have no issues with the refresh screens and displays. It’s quick for me. Maybe you got an early production run or the Firmware updates didn’t flash right? Who knows, but we all have our interests. Cheers man!

Congrats J. I was guessing you were going to go with the 2.7. Most of the dealer sales and financing options were for trucks with the 2.7 engine. As for the infotainment screen I have to disagree. I’ve had my refresh Silverado rst since June and it’s been great. No issues with anything. 5.3 with no dfm. In my opinion all you need is black lugs, rear wheelhouse liners and katskin. I know you’re going to do the katskin because of your gmc. Anyway best of luck with the new truck 🤙

The 2.7 engine is great 380 mile range is the lowest I get on a full tank of premium (91 octane) gas. This is for city driving which is okay for me as I do have a heavy foot. Highway I have gotten 450-470 mile range on premium (91 octane) gas. Which is phenomenal! Mind you I have the 2021 GMC Sierra with this engine configuration. The only things to watch out for are the : oil change intervals (5k no more than that in my opinion) Don’t rely on the oil life percentage just change the oil every 5k Had a slight shudder problem and it ended up being the transmission oil pump was defective Same for the engine oil control pump Both those were covered by warranty +extended warranty Some V8 have been reported to have an issue with the purge valve My truck had that replaced via extended warranty But I would watch out for those things with this 2.7 engine It’s a good engine and one gets a big truck with great gas mileage I do hope you got the extended warranty for the truck tho bc for me it’s been a life saver Lastly my truck has 77k+ and it’s great truck Believe it or not this engine is also in the Cadillac ct4 or ct5

@@watchmanexpert my Trailboss has an EPA rating of 16 city, 18hwy and 17 combined due to it being lifted, bigger and heavier AT tires, added weight and such along with no front chin spoiler which is known for better mpg. I exceed all of those in my real world driving typically the WORST I get in city driving is 18mpg, but often it’s more like 20mpg. Hwy driving 70-75 I get 21-22. This was all in colder weather as I just bought it in January and it only has 2300 miles on it. My mpg is improving with the warmer weather as these trucks seem to overfuel when cold. Rode up to the lake today and my avg for that trip was 25mpg which was on a two lane hwy running 55-60 most of the way. Also I’m in an area with mountains, so lots of inclines and declines when traveling.

I’ve had the 2.7 for a few years. It’s remarkably great on gas below 100kmh - like 9.5 l/km or better. Over 110 km/h and it goes down to 12 l/km. Towing my cargo trailer it’s 20 l/km. I’m in Canada don’t know what that converts to.

Nice truck. Just picked up mine 2024 Silvarado Custom looks just like yours, except I have the Slate Gray. Also, Chevy went to a 5 year 100k Limited Powertrain warranty in 2024. (maybe they do it for all the 2.7L TurboMax Engines? Really like it. Please keep doing the reviews. Would like to know if there are any issues I should be aware of. I don't know my total gas mileage yet, after 1st fill up I figured it out at 21mpg.

I had a sateen steal metallic RST before it was totaled. Now I'm in a black LTZ, more features but I'm really missing the sateen steal metallic. Black is challenging to keep clean. I'm just waiting on the right deal, then I'll be getting this same color.

Great color combo! I think a lot of your MPG can be attributed to 2WD, Ride height, street tires, and overall lower weight. That truck might be 500lb lighter than the 5.3 4x4 elevation trim.

I drove the 2.7 and 5.3 back to back before buying but trucks were basically the same the 5.3 would’ve cost me 4k more on that day, I went with the 2.7.

In one of the vids I watched the guy gave the weight specs and the 4 cylinder was close to 500 pounds lighter than the 5.3 I can't remember the exact numbers but the impression was hundreds of pounds. I ordered the new ZR2 with this engine and hoping the the torque/weight ratio feels solid. I know the new ZR2 is pretty heavy for a mid size but it must be lighter than these full size trucks I imagine.

Whats up Jay?! I have a 2023 Chevy Silverado LT, with the 5.3. My truck is also 2wd, but I average 420-445 miles per full tank.. I don't know if gas quality is just better in Texas, but that's crazy to hear 320 per tank with your 5.3.. Personally I like the looks of the Custom better, especially the Trail Boss version. I will probably switch to that when my lease is up. As for the 2.7, I'm hearing good things about it, but I just love the V8 lol.

Nice truck! I've been really impressed with what I've read and heard from friends about the 2.7l HO motor. It makes me think the 5.3l isn't long for this world (the 6.2l would remain the v8 option for the chevy/gmc).

Got a 22 Silverado LT 5.3 with 6800 miles on it and it’s at the dealership right now with a bad injector. Started missing horribly and then a lot of warning lights came on including the service esc light and check engine light. I didn’t even mention to them that my back up camera stops working intermittently but I guess I should considering these trucks have electrical issues that seem to create all kinds of unrelated problems. Apparently the injectors are back ordered. After reading all the Reddit threads and seeing all the videos people are making about the problems they’re having I Dont trust GM anymore. Glad you got lucky with the buy back but I doubt they would have done it for you if you weren’t buying another gm to replace it. Now that the car market has dropped back down to a more normal level I bet I’m going to be low balled on my trade in value when I get this pos back and go to trade it on another brand.

Sounds like it's all in your head, because I've owned the 5.3L, 3L Diesel Turbo, 6.2L, and they are all great in some way. I have spoken to lots of people that say this about a 4L truck, and they are all surprised after they try one.

Nice video. Curious as to capability on towing a 7000 pound travel trailer. Also plowing snow. Would it overheat. I have to be careful with the 5.3 half ton as the snow plow blocks the radiator and it can overheat. Also have overheated pulling the TT over the continental divide. Thinking a 2500 would be my choice for towing.
