Before starting the 30-Day Minimalist Game, I thought it would be much easier than it ended up being. Don't get me wrong, even after removing more than 450 items I still have more than I need.

You should look into the app BUNZ, it's a great way to give away clutter to people in person. So many times I feel something isnt valuable enough to sell, and it's hard to find someone to gift it to, where it would add value to their home. But on the app, the person who wants the thing comes to you, and you dont feel bad about taking their money because they dont pay you any real money, just an in-app coins that people get by trading stuff. (Its designed to be free, a trading community)

Good job. I think the beauty of the game is that it forces you to dig deeper, to work harder at finding those hidden things that you are so used to seeing, you don't see them anymore. As for the rules, the end goal is the same. If it works, who cares?

  • @TylerLloyd

I agree! But felt the need to explain myself since The Minimalist have stricter rules. Thanks for watching. Even as I struggled to let go of 450+ items, I may have gotten rid of an additional 450 since then. Really makes you think critically of what you have in your life. Wishing you the best!

My friend and I have had a long-term argument/discussion on "what is an item?" I would have counted each shoe (because it's possible to lose one - same with socks). I also, as you mentioned, would have counted the packaged pez dispenser as one and the enclosed package of pez candies as a second item (but NOT each individual pez candy). I was glad to see you counted the blender pieces separately instead of "one blender." It's a hard game to play. Good for you to finish it. I'm sure we all "fudge" on the rules. The goal is to a) have fewer items, b) touch all your stuff once a year, and c) get current on what you now hold valuable compared to what you used to hold valuable. I'd say you are a winner!

@@TylerLloyd technically no cause I grouped things together; like if I had multiple cards I was getting rid of, I'd count them as one item if they were similar enough. But in actuality I got rid of well over 500 items. I gave a bunch to friends who wanted it and donated the majority to Good Will. I still have to edit the video.

  • @small.decisions

I think you did a great job. At the end of the challenge, you had three options 1) Get rid of stuff you actually wanted 2) Get rid of stuff you didn't want and stretch the counting 3) Quit. I think you chose the best option because you finished what you started and you also learned from it.

Nothing like moving to make you confront all the stuff you own. Wishing you the best as you simplify. Take your time and approach it one room, closet, draw at a time. If you happen to still have things in boxes and have the space, you can only take things out of the box when you need it. After several months you can see what’s still the box and take it to a donation center.

Your game, your rules : ) I have done it a few times and I always (as in always not only while doing Mins game) keep a bag for donates in our hallway. I fill the bag over time and when it´s full I bring it to the nearest donation center, about two minutes walk from our apartment. Same with stuff to recycle, nearest "station" for that it two minutes walk away and when I am going out in that direction I´ll bring the stuff we want recycled. Things I will give to someone (or return, I count stuff I return to ppl to) I keep on a shelf in our entry hall closet until I am meeting that person. Every round of Mins game I have done I have tried to have everything out when the month is over. Sometimes the stuff going to someone special have stayed a little longer tho that fells ok for me, it has a designated home on that shelf until I can take it away.

I am going through the game now, and am saving the bags/boxes of items from each day (I do not look in the bag or box again when it's closed at the end of the day. The clothes I can walk to a bin that benefits Big Brothers/Big Sisters. Other items are going to a thrift store that benefits a local animal shelter that's too far to walk, so I intend to drop off once at the end of 30 days to save gas. I don't think it's cheating to do that, but you have to know yourself. If you're the type to second guess your decisions and maybe pull things out of the bag, maybe it's best to get it out of the house on a daily basis. Enjoyed the video.
