@@NicholasReguin the paint being garbage isn’t an excuse to say that people will want that vintage look, many don’t want their guitars paint to turn to crap that fast and that horribly. Besides that the dude clearly doesn’t take care of his shit. I’ve never heard of anybody who digs their finger nails into their guitars. I’ve also never seen someone’s picking pattern so obvious in the paint because they don’t know how to properly strum. It’s not hard to keep a guitar looking good. Again, the paint wearing out is the only thing you cannot blame on him, and even then if fender is still doing garbage paint jobs and charging upwards of 3k for it, then they’re a shit company too

Finally my late amp tech guru Buzzy agreed with me that it was worth 5-6,000. He found a collector and i sold it for 6,000 for my late friend. i told him i would buy it Only if i could match top dollar. i was a high school teacher supporting my family and could not come up with that kind of money. Glad i got him at the time a good price. Treating everyone with respect is number 1. Now i am 72, in poor, painful health. i did meet my dream guitar players a number of times. The problem is many expect their Guitars to look after a few years like a Strat thats been played from the 60's..even it might never left the bedroom, and so Fender tries to cater them with "flash coats extra thin no base coat" and stuff (or that breathing nitro finish BS). Was for Dealers in Europe quite a Problem in their AV Series since they often came with shipping flaws. Personally not a Fan, I like that Nitro and Stains wear down but when it comes it comes and often I know exactly from where that ding or wear comes 😎. Don't let me start on paying extra for pre damaged Guitars who nobody would look for if they would be B graded or on the used Market..or from the wrong Company. 😂

Oh wow haha I actually own one of the very first mexican strats made in my hometown and I've been using it almost daily for over 20 years, the paint is still in pristine condition except for a tiny spot after I dropped by accident lol I don't know what this dude does to his guitars to cause so much wear and tear to them 😂😂😂

I have a 1994 Japanese YJM strat and the finish on it is quite worn, but not in the way nitro would be. Still looks pretty good aside from a few faded areas where stickers used to be. I do not like nitro finishes, they don’t feel good to the touch.

That is the worst advertisement for a custom shop guitar. 😂 it literally looks like they screwed up the paint mix for it to instantly start chipping away. Horrible. I buy used guitars that have actual damage and they don’t like a tenth of what that thing looked in one play session from 20 years of playing.

  • @stupidthefish1979

I’ve seen quite a bit of heat about this, so for my own sanity I’m gonna explain it: It’s a thin nitro finish, the key words being thin (as in not much there) and nitro (shortened version of nitrocellulose, an already very fragile lacquer finish present on many vintage instruments). It’s meant to wear significantly faster to achieve a far more realistic weathered look in significantly less time. The finish isn’t meant to be specifically durable or nice, in fact it’s meant to be the exact opposite. Take that as you will. I’m sure you can custom order a poly guitar, but why would you? Just buy a top-end Fender. That said, the potentiometers/whammy bar have no excuse. Either you got faulty stuff or you’ll need to replace parts quite soon in your $10,000 guitar.

WTF… I played 1500+ 4-5hr sweaty bar gigs on my G&L.. it still plays perfectly. I did have to replace bridge saddles a cpl times bc of my highly corrosive sweat but that’s it. Still has the original frets, whammy is perfect, tuners ditto and electronics also ditto. Dude/ try some maintenance. Scratchy pot… clean it.

You can save so much money by building a parts Strat with the aftermarket and avoid the quality shortcuts that fender factory puts in their overvalued, overhyped guitars. For the price of one custom shop, you could build at least three quality strats that actually exceed the quality of a custom shop.

  • @jkeating7906

Seems like a custom shop isn’t worth it! The nitro paint is a preference if you like the vintage wear and tear on the paint job, but I’d be pretty pissed if my volume pot was acting like that after a year, not to mention the whammy bar breaking off! I’ve had my fender American deluxe for 12 years, play it every day, gig with it, and I’ve never had a problem with it.

Painting guitars it’s not a great option and the reason why they do it is to cover up ugly looking wood ,for me I prefer non-painting guitars with just an oil finish for protection. Also paint compresses the sound on the guitar slightly, unpainted resonate better in my opinion.
