This is absolutely wild! Thanks for sharing, gives me much motivation to keep going. currently in my first year of skating and unfortunately i couldn’t skate that much in the winter due to much much snow and many rainy days (theres no indoor skatepark in my city.. just some roofed parking lots i used). I'm on my 3 and a half month of skating, didn't really progress that much but here's the things that i can do - stationary ollies not rocket every tries - shuvit - bs kickturn on a ramp - rolling up and down a bank and, - caveman I started skating back in the end of july 2021 and right now I'm still learning how to do a drop in! You got any tips for a faster progression?

Mate you’re already progressing faster. But as a tip I think I would say learn the trick you think are cool and fun and just skate as much as possible and try to do all the trick you know every time you skate to get it on lock and if you ever feel you’re lacking just focus on that trick that day but absolutely most importantly have fun man!!!

In the 90's in the UK without any skaters to learn off it was so hard. No internet and no instruction vids anywhere. The skaters who were good were arrogant and would rather not teach others how they did things. They just showed off and seemed to want to be the only one who could do anything. Maybe because the knowledge was so hard to come by they felt they owned it. The whole culture was exclusive and full of tw4ts. Often the lads who skated were bullied in school so when they got a chance to be the bully they took it and were mean to everyone learning. There was a hierarchy. We also had no skate parks at all. The big spot to hang out was the courts in liverpool and there were no steps, rails or anything other than the flat. Even our streets were paved with uneven flag stones and the road surfaces were not tarmac but very gravelly. Hell some of the streets still had cobble stones. Getting your wheels locked up and coming off your board was common just cruising. I still learned to ollie from watching a 20 quid 20 minutes skate video imported from the USA. Good boards were also expensive and skate shops again were exclusive and full of people who sneered at you. Ive heard the arrogance is still there to some degree but at least you can watch a video and have every last trick explained. I know were I was going wrong with my kickflip now when I had no clue back then. I would just fail 1000 tines and get demotivated. I am disabled and cannot walk let alone skate now and I am so jealous of what the kids have at their finger tips these days. Do not get me wrong it still takes a lot of effort and skill but kids have no idea how hard it was to learn anything back then. Especially in the UK. I can see the help the internet has given these kids as the quality of skating has gone through the roof. In liverpool if you could kickflip and jump a 4 set you were almost considered a pro. No joke. I went to a pro tour of english skaters in an indoor park 3 hours from my house and the pro's were so disappointing. They could barely land a kickflip. The best pro there was jumping a 4 step and into a board slide and it took all day for him to nail it. By the mid 2000 a lot had changed and the quality was improving. Probably because of the internet.

How do you compare to others at 3 years. Is your level of skill normal these days? I got my ollie up to about 12 inches and could cruse and get up curbs. I once tried to ollie a loaf of bread showing my new skill. The loaf was ruined and I had to go get my mum a new one. lol. I get a thrill watching skating to this day. There is nothing like it in my opinion, It's just so beautiful.
