3 Year Pellet Grill Review | Pitts & Spitts Pellet Grill Review

In this weeks video I do a 3 year pellet grill review of my Pitts & Spitts Maverick 1250. There isn't a whole lot of bad with this pellet grill and the fact that i've had it for 3 years and only had a few issues is impressive! This pellet grill has been used in all the weather you could imagine and just keeps chuggin. To anyone in the market for a pellet grill I would highly recommend spending a little extra cash and buying a Pitts & Spitts. Thanks for watching and see you in the next video!

    Great review. I have had mine about 3.5 years and agree 100% with what you said. It is an absolute tank. I have only replaced one hot rod. Even in my climate (Detroit, MI area) in the winter and without a blanket, I can do overnight cooks and only use 20-ish lbs of pellets. It truly is a well-engineered and designed machine. The money was spent in R&D and it shows. No gimmicks, no bullshit, no bottle openers. It has everything you need and nothing you don’t.

    I've had mine about 3 years. Love it. It gets garage space with my motorcycle in one bay so 2 cars have to sit out in the driveway. I use the 1250 way more than my motorcycle! Also, my burn pot is always clean every time I check it. It's expensive but I love mine! It brings me joy so that's what it's all about. I think it's plenty big! I swear I could cook for my whole street because I think the bottom rack holds a crap-ton! This is one device that I will keep with me till I can't walk anymore. Also, I have watched a lot of your videos and it was very helpful. At first we want to dial everything in perfectly... but that perfection desire subsided with me and this grill has made me nothing but happy! Thanks again for your content. I watched all of your 1250 stuff 🙂

    Really great review on this Pitts N Spitts pellet grill Brian! It’s definitely a beast. Well built and USA made. I was on the fence between this and the Memphis Pro. Yeah I know it’s pricey but it holds temps better than my stove even in zero weather. It’s all 304 SS and like Tom, looks brand new and I use aluminum foil. I’m with you…should have gone bigger. Can't say enough good stuff about my 1250. I have had mine since early 2020. If you move it around at all, I would suggest the wheel upgrades. To save money on the thermal cover, I use a welding blanket and I have had good success with it. $20 vs $199 is a hard pill to swallow for something that amounts to a "blanket". Thanks for the great review/update Brian!

    My Traeger Timberline has WiFi. I use it, but I guess if it quit working tomorrow, I wouldn't miss it. I seriously dread the day I have to change the glow rod. I, like you, use my pellet grill for chicken and low and slow cooks. One thing is for certain, the metal parts on the Pitts and Spitts are way more robust than my Traeger. I'd consider Pitts and Spitts if I had to replace my Traeger. I'd also consider the Lonestar Grillz pellet smoker.

    Have you used the Traeger Ironwood 885? I ask because I would like to know if this pellet grill can match the smoke flavor I am getting from my Traeger. Another question I have, On my Traeger the louver on the back move to help control temps and smoke out put. I am wondering if it would be better on the Maverick to have the smoke stack adjustable?

    I got one recently. I wonder why they went to a 7 hole firepot instead of the 9 like yours. I don’t know if yours has one of those typical exposed coil fans with the little arms to mount it but mine came with a fully cased fan similar to a computer fan. Maybe it had higher airflow that caused too much swing and the wanted the temps rock steady so they covered up that two on the bottom by the auger. Don’t get me wrong I’ve verified with 3rd party probes that it holds working 3-5 degrees either way (regardless of what the pit says) that’s great but it makes no smoke unless you are at below 200. Does not matter if I used Lumberjack, bear mountain, knotty wood, etc pellets. Customer services states they may be releasing some new programming to address this and allow for more swing similar to what I saw on my Traeger (even with super smoke off). We’ll see if they come up with something.

  • @MadHorseBBQ

    @MadHorseBBQ

    Жыл бұрын

    Hmmmn that’s seems strange. How new is your pit? Mine produces visible smoke up to 300. It might not be thick white smoke but I don’t want that anyways. And I’m a huge fan of how consistent the pitts runs so if they come out with that update I won’t run it. Temp swings drive me crazy though.

  • @txfieros

    @txfieros

    Жыл бұрын

    @@MadHorseBBQ I confirmed with them that they are all using a 7 hole firepot. I just got it a couple months back. My guess is the something changed with the fan and the firepot was modified. I don’t know if they touched the programming when they made these changes. I was used to my Traeger which produced thin blue smoke and actually flavored the food as high as 275. I don’t mind using a smoke tube but I had gotten used to not needing one.

    The Pitts & Spitts WIFI was a waste of $... It just doesn't work. I simply use my fireboard and that's all I need. Re"a different subject, I had a malfunction today. The pellet shoot dump door doesn't seem to be engineered too well. The sliding "door" opened (a lot) at the bottom of the pellet dump and moisture crept its way up the shoot and swelled the pellets above the auger opening. This stopped pellets from feeding into the auger. I couldn't dump the pellets out of the hopper because of the clog. I scooped out the wet/hardened pellets and cleared the jam. I noticed when the pellet dump door was re-inserted, I could see light from the door (not good) and when I added new pellets, they were falling out of the pellet dump shoot. I turned the dump shoot sliding "door" around 180 degrees and it seems to seal a lot better.
