a receiver coach taught me that on CERTAIN PLAYS, when i need to give other routes time to develop, to run sort of a comeback then into the dig, kind of like a whip but backwards

No doubt- all about timing your route up with the progression

When running a dig or out do u think it’s better to breakdown, square cut, or stick(make one cut). I don’t really know which ones to use in which situations

Honestly depends on the coverage so if it’s off man I like the square cut or a rocker step because he’s playing man on you so it will work better. Against zone you josh half to get to the area the QB needs you to be at do anything quick

That first route was meaaannnn lol. I used to basically do the same thing when I had a slant and the defender was pressed with inside leverage. I would maybe do some kinda stutter at the line, then step straight at the DB to hold him in place. Then I would use all the space to the outside to threaten vertically. Now he’s (oh shit I just got beat). It was over at that point lol. #14 created good separation off that stack before breaking in. If he woulda maybe looked to the left (selling the out) before he broke in, mighta got even more separation. (Kez McCorvey taught me that). I wish someone would’ve taught me the 4 step square in method when I was coming up tho. I took the 3 step approach because I felt like I could come out of my breaks faster, and I had the feet and hips to get flat while accelerating out. But this 4 step just makes your route SAUCIER 🔥💪🏻 because u have that extra 4th step to play with the defender. (Given you have the time progression wise) I see a lot of the bigger receivers who use 4 steps as opposed to smaller receivers tho. I don’t think Chad Johnson ever used 4 steps. He would snap 1-2, and on that 3rd he was flipping his hips, coming flat, and accelerating out at the same time lol. When u said that WR sold the out off a 3 step, but came in on the 4th… it completely broke that DB lol. This whole video just explained the importance of precision when it comes to route running. You perfectly explained what was being done and why it was being done in those situations. As a receiver, hearing all of that was 2nd nature. You was basically breaking down my mindset as if it were me approaching these routes. 🤣 great stuff man! 💪🏻

Is a square cut the same thing as beating the drums?

No it is different there is more of a rythm to it, rather than just chop your feet and hands. It’s like a snap down then a double move
