Hello friends. Thanks for watching this video! Some things have come to my attention that I wanted to address real quick. It seems that unfortunately I may not have communicated the message of this video clearly enough for some. I think the original title of this video may have put too much of an emphasis on the smallest part of this story, how I "faked" being confident with the double bass pedal. This part of the story is not why I got the gig and I apologize if that was misleading, that truly was not my intention! To be honest, I just thought it was a much catchier title than "how I worked really hard for 11 years playing music and making connections that eventually led to an opportunity where I had to work even harder to learn a brand new skill." However, I have now changed the title to more accurately reflect what I am trying to communicate. But regardless, my message and my intention behind this video is not to reward lying. I sincerely apologize if that's what was communicated. Thats never the message I want to send. The message I want to send is to work hard to create opportunities for yourself and if you are ever blindsided with an opportunity that you weren't expecting, then work even harder to try to get yourself to a place where you can nail the audition.

A really inspiring story! Bottom line is, you must believe in yourself first before anyone else will. This will involve work and time well spent honing your skills. I bet I Prevail is extremely happy you are playing for them. All the best!

I only played in my basement. Then a girl band asked me if I wanted to join. I felt so incompetent. I said yes because I knew if I didn't I'd never do it. It was terrifying. But we're playing our 3rd gig in a few weeks. And I'm on my way. AND gigging means you meet so many people and learn more opportunities!

I’m just starting with the drums, I’m a mom of 4 so I really have to work hard to put in the time to practice. Your videos are sooo helpful, it’s never to late to start something new no matter what position you are in, we create our own reality.

Been in similar situations (even down to the double kick weakness, lol). I'd add that this is also why knowing different genres helps a ton!

One of the things I’ve learned that leaves a big impression if not one of the biggest is like you said, being prepared. Know the songs you have to play inside and out.

Hey bro such a good video! Thanks for sharing! Real good advice and tips. Also appreciate the fact that you're sharing your gold with other musicians, some musicians can be real hard to chat with and others lack a mentor/teacher attitude. We can always learn something from someone.
