Understanding the Cheerful giver. First thing we need to point out is the italics in the King James, those were added by the scribes and may be removed from scripture as they don’t belong in the Bible and can throw off the context of the message. Most other Bibles have added the italics but are no longer typed in italics which makes it harder to make sense of the truth. Now before we read into portions of 2 Corinthians 9 we need to understand about the countries of Macedonia and Achaia, as people of those two countries are the ones which will be giving of themselves to the ministry…… Romans 15:26 KJV [26] For it hath pleased them of Macedonia and Achaia to make a certain contribution for the poor saints which are at Jerusalem. Did Macedonia and Achaia want to make a contribution, and was it a contribution of money?, or a spiritual contribution of sharing the gospel?, when we look up the word contribution in the Greek strongs 2842 we also find out that it interprets as: to help, to participate in spiritual fellowship, and fellowship in spirit; This is what Macedonia and Achaia were offering to the poor saints of Jerusalem, and NOT money. (poor in spirit). 2 Corinthians 9:6-10 KJV [6] But this I say, He which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully. Line 6 is all about preaching the Gospel, stating that if you work hard at it your reward is greater than if you work not as hard. [7] Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give ; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver. Line 7 means that you are free to preach to others at a level that you are happy and genuinely able to manage with according to your heart. Now as we see “ so let him give “ was added to the text, which may imply money to some believers; , sadly it has many thinking that that is all they have to do is to give some money and their work is done… This is not the case! You cannot buy your way into the Kingdom of God. Now as we see, God wants us to share the Gospel without grudge or by force, as God loves those that willingly share the Gospel. Now don’t despair, even if it sounds daunting, these days you can spread the Word online, in the comfort of you own home, or printing pamphlets and delivering to mailboxes. We will be without excuse in the judgement if we don’t act now. Find the parable of the talent if you need more info on what happens to those who are called and don’t do the good works required, and read John 15:1,7. [8] And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work: Line 8: God will see to it that we are guided in the right direction in every good work, having all we need to be successful sharing the Word of God. [9] As it is written, He hath dispersed abroad; he hath given to the poor: his righteousness remaineth for ever. Line 9: Your righteousness remains forever, for giving to the poor sharing the Gospel of God and Christ; The poor in this case is everyone that have not the gospel, because the gospel is for everyone. You will find the Bible doesn’t state that the Gospel is only for the poor and homeless. Here is an example of the words used in this scripture… Revelation 3:15-18 KJV [15] I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot. [16] So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth. [17] Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked: [18] I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see. … Wretched, miserable, poor, blind and naked; these are all taken in spiritual terms. [10] Now he that ministereth seed to the sower both minister bread for your food, and multiply your seed sown, and increase the fruits of your righteousness;) … Line 10: To minister bread for food means to feed the people with that spiritual bread, being “the gospel”; this scripture explains how that if you preach the word to a single person and then they share the Gospel after they have heard it, and then that person gives it to another, who then gives it to another and so on; Your good fruits of righteousness also will increase each day that goes by. Now you can imagine, if you have spoken to 1000 people all your life willingly and all that you truely reached was 2 people, those 2 people may have reached thousands which would increase your 2 people to thousands of souls saved through your good works, How encouraging is that! May the LORD THY GOD guide us all to his Son Yeshua, to his everlasting righteousness, God Bless.
