    Pro 2 owner here, and you would love it. There are many similarities in how the synths are set up to be sure, but you would love having the choice of wavetables on all four oscillators, especially with the tricks you have shown here (the wave reset one is new one to me, so thanks). The 2 doesn't have as many effects, but there are four delays, and you can do a host of things with them. Oddly enough, the most vintage sounding things I get are from the Pro 2; it might be the SEM filter, or the VCA. But every synth head adores the Pro2.

    Another thought instead of using sample and hold LFO idea: Just use the "random" parameter in the mod matrix so you don't use an LFO to get a random value per hit. I use this on each oscillator which adds slight pitch adjustments per keypress all the time. Great video!

    FYI, Waldorf NW-1 eurorack wavetable oscillator allows 8 seconds recording time to instantly create a user wavetable. It's drawback being there's no amp envelope to turn notes off and on - they're continuous. Love Sequential Pro 3, but hope they do a rackmount, as I'm all synthed out here for space.

  • @earlsfield
    @earlsfield Жыл бұрын

    Wavetable synthesis - especially on pro 3 - depend on wavetables you want to use. You can have flatter wavetables with less "positions" as you call them. The max resolution for the user wavetable is from small 128 to 1024 max samples long. So, you can create your own waveforms that, if you like, you don't have to scan at all. I work a lot with wavetables and try to find PPG-esque ground with analog filters and wavetables.

    what's happening with your square wave LFOs is that one is switching to one octave while the other is also switching to one octave, there's a brief gap in the switching time where the oscillator has no LFO value acting on it and therefore creating that little blip you're hearing as the oscillator is trying to go back to "+0" modulation for that little slice of time. Not sure the solution but just thought I'd clarify what's going on there.

    Running a sine wave to a bitcrusher on a send is a great idea-in the digital realm. If you’re doing that on an analog mixer and actually sending the sine through a physical bitcrusher box, that signal will be out of phase with your original sine, thus creating a cancelling out of certain frequencies when mixed back together. The musical result is that some notes will sound great and others will have no bass. It’s a dope trick, but works best when “in-the-box”

  • @devonhughes3805

    Empty Fame if you think about it, a digital bitcrusher is going to have a tiny bit of latency which will cause the processed signal to be out of phase with the original...although, in thinking more deeply about Ricky’s application, if the notes of the sine waves are low enough, the phase change may not result in a cancellation.

    _There's a random source in the mod matrix, so you don't need to use up an lfo for that static sample and hold, and you can have as many as there are mod slots. _You can stack row upon row of rythmical variations with the sequencer (it's not just for notes), you can slew them, and record automation in real time. _Pro2 does not have wavetables. It has some digital waves, and you can morph between three of them. much more limited, and they don't sound that great. I was hoping for some interesting things that make this synth shine, like using the wavetable as an LFO (also useable in duophonic mode), modulating the reverb and other fx parameters, the amazing sequencer and certainly the CV interfacing. It's amazing as a modular hub, you sure are missing out!
