3 Situations that are Absolutely Perfect for Use Cases!

This is Laura Brandenburg from Bridging the Gap. Today, I want to talk about when to write a use case. Because I love use cases. Not everyone does, but they are a useful analysis tool and I can guarantee you, if you’re writing software of functional requirements today, and you’re not at least thinking in use cases, you are missing requirements. What are the scenarios that we need to be either writing a use case, or making sure we’re thinking strongly in use cases?
What are the situations when we’re documenting functional or software requirements like that where we would use a use case?

I need to do a video on this! Here's a tip on managing scope, which is different than understanding it in the first place. www.bridging-the-gap.com/using-a-stakeholder-requests-list-as-part-of-scope-definition/ And here's an article on our 8 step process framework - step 3 is to define the scope (solution scope). www.bridging-the-gap.com/business-analysis-process/

Thanks Laura. Could you please do a video of difference between user story and user case? As per my understanding, use case involves overall requirements and goal that we want to achieve whereas user story represents separate requirements needed to achieve that goal.

Is use case used only in Waterfall or it is also used in Agile?

We find a lot of people leverage use cases in an agile environment to think through the full solution before breaking it apart into discrete user stories for implementation. This is a great case study of a participant of ours who experienced big leaps forward by leveraging use cases in an agile environment: kzread.info/dash/bejne/aqh6pbZudNCqiNY.html&t
