Hi! The 316i E36 has the same 1.9l (1895cc) engine as the 318i. but it's down tuned down from 125hp to 105hp. At least my 316i from 2000. Seems some also had a 1.6l 102hp.

Downshifting can work if you're careful, but can be sketchy sometimes, and it's not something I'd reccomend to someone beginning to drift. Also, the effect that occurs when you downshift, and the tires slip when you change into the lower gear, is called rev mismatching. If you match the revs when you change gear like you normally would when driving, the car won't slide, because the engine revs will match those of the drivetrain and of the wheels. Rev mismatching upsets the car, and basically acts like a handrake, although it feels different because of the downshifting.
Wouldn't recommend the downshift technique too much as there is a high possibility of over revving the engine if not careful. Clutch kick with flick the best ✌🏻

Indeed, not to mention the diff takes a beating. Especially on dry pavement. On gravel and snow it’s fine but dry pavement wears them down.

Low HP sliding has it's magic cause once you get it right it's truly rewarding. Clutch kicking can seem like a brutal misstreating your car but feels hella good also proper weight transfer is important it doesn't come for free like in a turboed monster you have to keep the car up to speed and huge steering angle will slow you down too much and I like this balanced drifting where every mistake is punished

This is the exact pain and reward I feel when I boot up Assetto Corsa on my sim rig and try drifting the stock 370Z compared to any legit drift car lol
e46 318 i.... 118 hp, lots of weight down, rear tires 3 bars, welded diff, hard chassis, low coilovers, new clutch, hydraulic brake.... this is all i have and its so fun to drift with it, after theese upgrades u dont need powerful engines
Man I love your e36 content and just your content in general, keep it up bro, greetings from Ireland!
Don't pull the ebrake because it will break stuff... but shiftlock because that's definitely not going to harm the transmission.😅
A bonus one that I'd say is much part of the second tip is to trail brake. Shifting all of your car's weight to the front (by braking prior to the turn) until it's back swings outwards.

Put very good tyres on the front and part worn budgets on the back. By far the easiest way to drift with low power
Thanks dude! It helped alot!❤
I have an e36 compact, 3.91 welded diff , With the front arms of the e46, and suspension of the mini Cooper s on the rear, with the 1.6 is really good, just do not be afraid and throw the car. Tires 185 to 4bar,it becomes quite fun. Becomes a lowpowerhero! Now whit 1.8is engine it has become even easier to drift. But I regret the 1.6 that had a little more torque in the low rpm.
I also have an e36, Braking right after the flick can help since the whole weight of the car goes to the front and the rear loose grip, then you can manage the drift with good throttle control, another thing is to over inflate the tires so you have less grip surface, 3.5 bars is more than enough in my opinion since when the tires get hotter the pressure inside gets more

You could use scandi flick with foot break
Bmw 116d 104hp 2.0l n47 with stock everithing. Drifts like crazy on the wet just with the flick and some clutch kiks here and there
install the windshield washer fluid reservoir in the trunk and the front hood washers in the rear wheel arches. water is supposed to fall onto the tire. then you have + 100km
Will the clutch kick whilst in 2nd still work on a front wheel drive ?
be careful with crossing arms! although sick video men
I got an e46 compact 1.8 turbo 86kw chipped to 116 and i usualy drift on open roads when its wet but something fucked up cause the engine wont rev out enought to drift it starts to like jump i got to check it with a mechanic 🤣😂🤣 btw trick 4 make urself an e brake by simply putting a hole in ur parking brake as the button is in than put something into it so it holds and u have a makeshift ebrake 😂😂😂❤ loved the vid
video starts at 2:50
Hi man, what camera and lens do you use beside the go pro in this video?
Im bought a corsa D from 2010 with 69hp and no Modifikations as my 1st car. I went on a empty parking of a store and drifted with my handbrake on wet ground. Some of the drifts are long but the in the most of them my car straightens out and i think because of low HP. But i never tried a clutch kick and downshifting. I hope it works out thanks! Ps: As he said dont do it on public Roads
One more simple trick specific to bmw is to remove the clutch disengage valve (CDV). If present clutch kicking won't be as useful.
Am I the only one here who started trying to drift without watching any how to vids and only checking those out for the first time like 3 years later after my first drift attempt, out of boredom cause the car is not running? 😛 I mostly do (did, no running RWD now xD) it on snow though, sometimes in rain. I mostly tried to use flick/no clutch to not kill the car. Gotta be very careful and know your gear speeds with the downshift technique to not overrev too. For a next beater I want a either a FSO, a Lada or a BMW with TDS engine, even the 1.7.
07 c230 with the v6. Very difficult to get sideways even when raining
Best car I learned on was a 318i loved it

With turbo definitely no Problem but even stock if its a manual and you know how to clutch kick ist def possible to drift
honestly I am so desperate to learn drifting that I even tried it with my four wheel drive Suzuki sx4 and to surprise of absolutely nobody it didn't work. Until the snow fell, the it worked perfectly. It makes me think that if I just had big enough balls, I could pull it off. I am kinda terrified of rolling or more likely smashing a curb as a already did
Tip 2 is gonna grenade your box if you do it too much. Cause what you're basically doing is shift locking.

Well, waiting for winter also does the trick. You could drift anything then.
some cars dont even let you put it in first gear while having speed like some cars i have dont go into first if it has high speed
I drive a 316i saloon here in South Africa. Not too difficult to drift it🚗💨
can i do the same in e46 sedan with 105 hp? its weight is 1400 kg i think
You can lose traction in 2 ways: by having the rear tires spin slower than the front tires (the actual speed of the car) by handbraking or by having the rear tires spin faster than the front, by clutch kicking or downshifting. Not the other way around. When you clutch kick or downshift, the rear tire will try to match up with the speed of the engine or the gearing in the case of the downshift, making the rear tires spin faster than you're actually going, thus breaking the traction
@johnprice233
10 ай бұрын
When you downshift without pressing gas during a shift [like he did] the RPM's attempt to match the rotational velocity of the tires by going up. While the RPM's go up, the tire velocity goes down, and they meet somewhere in the middle. That is why if you try to put it in a lower gear without rev matching and your tires don't manage to spin, your car will start to break -> because tire velocity went down.

@@FahreFilms actually I don't know... I think that the selection of the ratio was based on different factors. Anyway, an high diff ratio like 4,44 4,27 or 4,10 (mostly found in automatic transmission car or touring models) will help a lot in drifting low power cars. The short Gear ratio will reduce the top speed but allows you to drift in second gear for longer without forcing you to use the first gear and always being almost on the rev limiter. The car will be more snappy even though the power remains the same and the only disadvantage is the loss of reach
