    Hello @KameTrick I have a problem with my Thrustmaster TS-XW it feels like this wheelbase start skipping after few minutes (maybe overheating or wrong settings?) So I can effectively just learn 15min a session. Do you or someone else know how to fix that? Or can you recommend a alternative a new wheelbase ? I have a fanatec DD in my mind that model with 5nm (with boostkit 8nm) .is 5nm enough for drifting?

    Super informative video as usual from you, Mr Turtle! As a beginner, getting a grip on throttle control is tricky. Having a look at the rev/torque curve and learning to listen to the engine really helped me, as I used to spin out a lot when the turbo kicks in. Also, doughnuts tend to look triangular while getting started ;)

    this is pretty good for faster RWD lap times, as this is one of the techniques to get the "4 wheel drift" or slip angle. coming into a corner too fast will understeer your car, too slow, and bad lap times. but if you make the rear suddenly light enough to start slipping, then the hardest things is the steering and throttle. steering or putting too much throttle will spin the car, too little steering or acceleration will understeer(it will make the car controllable though) the hardest part is getting on the peak of your tyres grip. too much slipping of the rear and you will go off-course at the apex or outside the entry. too little slip then thats understeer, you also go off course. it may seem to some "arent you loosing grip because you are drifting?" yes, but the goal of this technique is speed, the faster you go the harder it is to grip. advice is you want to drift the car but you dont want to countersteer (for most of the time)

    I power away in the exit of a fwd in games and it feels so satisfying if the car is underpowered and you time your downshift right. Enter the corner a bit fast and tuck it in carefully and then ballance toward the edge of the track. Downshift and throttle full and if you entered the turn fast enough and didnt understeer you can swing the rear around in certain cars extremely well. The issue is if it locks the wheels up without handbrake and your suddenly trying to stop it can spin out if your using the body weight and rotating the car like that. Also burning the inside tire isnt recommended but in games it takes less energy to maintain full power than it does to get up to full power. On hillclimbs a fwd will love to go wide as you throttle up so you need to be more straight on the hill facing up the hill than you would downhill even if its by a few tiny degrees. It makes a difference. If I had a steering wheel set up I could further study the idea.😅 it requires every bit of skill you got to maintain speeds like that. Awd is also fun. I happen to suck at rwd racing due to the nature of how awd and fwd behave. The rear end snaps out way too easy for me

    Halfway through the video and I realise that my drifting in AC with the S15 WDTS has a problem. I always drift very close (sometimes on....) the rev limiter. This makes it so that I have very little throttle to play with! So I will have to go and look at my gearing and tyre pressure to see if I can gain some more revs to play with. Or perhaps go with a different car. Super informative as usual Ben, may the algorithm bless you!

  • @KameTrick

    @KameTrick

    Good call, at 100% turbo in the 180, the OSGiken gearing is nice for tracks where the stock gearing gets “busy” going up and down frequently. That said, IRL one does not simply swap gears trackside (other than Pro teams) so it’s a good skill to work on learning where and how to upshift to avoid being gear limited. Sometimes you upshift into not enough power and have to make it work, too 🤷🏻‍♂️

    @@KameTrick Yea I'm not great at mid-drift-shifting (although in Sweden we only have stick so we're quite used to it! "only" newer cars tend to be only automatic, damned american trends.) Before I spit ny experiences, I would like to declare something, which is actually about my normal day driving skills. I'm a Malaysian, basically i shifted from Manual to Auto, as we all know Manual has 3 3 compressors under our legs (apologies, not really sure what they were called), Clutch, Brakes, and Accelerator, while Auto only has 2, Accelerator and brake. So, for my daily driving routine, as a student, I drive 12km from the house to University, and 3km to 6km for Lunch, while 7km to come back to University, and 14km from university coming back to home. So there's a total of 39km of my daily routine on weekday. With that saying, I've drove for at least 2 years, by using right leg for accelerate, and left leg for braking. Therefore, until today, I did my first drifting, with my old Toyota Corolla, manual still. Surprisingly, I can get on hook with the drifting with Corolla so quick, and hardly to have issues or accidents. The heaviest accident I've had is the tyre got poked by nails, casing me to loose controls over a slow and shirt distanced driving session. After knowing the casuses of my fail, I did all the preparation I needed. Eventually, I did few more driftings after that accident. Fortunately, I was able to learn some from one of my relative who was an ex-racer in Malaysia, as he taught me drifting, and speed controlling in secret, since my parents hated me to do all these dangerous sports. And seemingly, it has became my daily routine, from normal driving to University, and drifting back from University to home. I should appreciate the people I've met, and the video that got me into a better skilled driver. Thanks, Brother!

    Whenever I see those clips it looks like the steering angle at the front wheels is extreeeeme. Is this somehow changed in comparison to factory defaults, do you guys take actions to achieve those crazy steering angles?

  • @KameTrick

    @KameTrick

    7 ай бұрын

    We do! While you can drift any RWD car, and have countersteer angle on corner entry in *any* drivetrain, cars tuned specifically for drift like ours have modified steering knuckles and suspension arms to give the wheels and tires way more travel without rubbing against the suspension so we can drift confidently at more angle than a normal car can 👍🏻

  • @KameTrick

    The clutch just controls the acceleration in a different way, so it’s mostly a modifier for how the throttle works, generally the throttle steer techniques work the same way but faster with clutch work. For figure 8’s you might check this vid out. kzread.info/dash/bejne/Za2qpsmcptjcgaw.htmlsi=Sy-3LnwEkcQB1gjv It’s not as nicely delivered as this video, but you can learn a lot from the explanations, watching the wheel work, and listening to the engine sound to know when I’m on throttle, giving a throttle blip, and off throttle. (No clutch locks are used in it)

    Your videos are super pro and cool man 👍 you should work for a car brand and do the voice overs for their mechanical videos 😎 btw i checked out the channel but couldn't find a video about your assetto corsa drift settings, and why. I watched the one for the steering wheel, but none for in-game settings, I love to read suspension, car and drift articles and try to play with it and tweek it afterwards in the simulator. Would love to see a video like this by you 🙏

    Thank you 👋🏻 To your question, you may be disappointed, but 99% of the time I drift the Assetto mod cars in my vids with their stock settings and only “tune” by adapting my inputs to suit the car and corner. IRL of course I’ve tuned my 240SX a fair bit, but once it’s sorted I do the same thing and rarely touch the settings track to track. I *would* be more picky if I was trying to compete and needed to keep up with guys who were running custom tuning for each track…back on topic, most mod packs are designed to simulate a car that’s already modded. So their default setup is usually adequate for performance driving. A video on how to tune is well within my skill set, so I might make one in the future, but every borrowed car I take for a few laps in the IRL vids, and every AC drift video the car is literally on its default tune, and I adjust the only thing you can in the middle of a run: my driving 👌🏻

    @@KameTrick Thanks for the great answer, one important thing is exactly experience and be able of adapting your driving style to the track, car, conditions. Me coming from motorcycle racing and a bike mechanic myself got first into sim with Gran Turismo sport. I just love to adjust and test drive. Now I'm on PC and started to get into sim drifting I got so much questions, I read a bit about the negative camber and toe in front, the differential, and many other aspects of how a car for drifting should be set-up. But still got so much questions, like about gearing. I see guys maxing out the ratio and do everything in first gear for example. What type of tyres is used in drifting compared to road race? Btw I'm using the standard drift cars in assetto, the ones from kunos, like the supra and the bmw's, with them you can tweek and adjust like crazy. Still it's stays a game to find the best setup for your personal driving style, and of course gaining experience. But a video on all these settings in assetto compared to real, why and their effects should be insanely cool. Keep on doing what you are doing sir! You are bringing a nice level to motorsport 👍

    And how does having a welded diff or stock open diff influence in this scenario?

  • @KameTrick

    @KameTrick

    To simplify, this all works with a welded or clutch diff, and none of it works with an open diff. If you have an open diff and want to slide cars in the dry on pavement, get a welded or clutch diff ASAP

    Thanks! Yeah my wheel is an old Japanese Maziora wheel, might have been a Moco Moco, but I found it used and they’re pretty rare stateside at least. I plan to look into making a KT wheel with this paint style after I figure out the gist of physical product & retail with something simpler like stickers and apparel

    Well shit. Been doing this for over a year and today I learned that power away is actually a thing, with a name, that can be done at will, rather than something that randomly occurs in cars with too much negative camber at the front. Back to spending a month in hermit mode practicing a new skill 😅
