I wonder if someone can help me. I can slap the 4th and 3rd strings open but once i try to play the 5th fret or higher on the 3rd string it just makes a boop sound. How can i fix this???

I'm loving those DR pure blues bass strings. They have the stainless mid brightness and vocal tone with all the full round tone and zing of a nickel string with that dr round core

I believe the best way to get started when it's your first time attempting slap is to utilize the same method of opening a door knob with your forearm relatively parallel to the bass strings and using the thumb near the knuckle like a mallet striking a piano string would, immediately moving away from the string after striking it...no need to strike hard, just accurately, which comes with time. A good set up definitely helps, too. Great point about simply cranking up the treble knob is not the key to great slap tone, Daric and that intro was doooope! I like the new paint choice, too!

There is merit to the “light touch” technique (in slap and fingerstyle) - turn turn your amp up way too loud and play gently and precisely. Dynamics are under-appreciated!

Good video. One thing more, I believe, the setup of the base. I find it difficult to get sufficiently low action without excessive string buzz.

Your presentations are great. A solid focus on the core elements of slap. Your videos inspire me to practice more and think through it! It’s great to hear you getting some menacing zing out of those pickups. fwiw the MusicMan flavour of funk/new age is getting boring for me. Wild with the busy thumbing! The more i practice double thumbing the more i let loose with hyper downstrokes and freaking love it. Cool name bro 😎

I don't know if back to new, but definitely you will bring most of the brightness back. Explanation? You will get rid of all the grease and grime that naturally sticks to your strings and changes the tone. You can try it, it won't hurt...

I have to disagree, that string freshness is so key (pun unintended). Getting fresh strings just delays the process. Start slapping first and all the other stuff will come. The guys I hear slapping with dead strings and not-so-great IQ is scary. Play first! Other stuff is bonus!
