I had dreadlocks in the past and i started spraying my dreads with sea salt and water everyday and soon enough they locked, the sea salt dries out the hair and makes it tangle which creates the lock

@Swirly Tunes 64 nah there was never salt stuck in my dreads because you shake up the sea salt and the water in a bottle so the sea salt just goes in the water and it looks like regualr watee

@@choppaboymon9685 Agreed. Back in MA, I was swimming in the Atlantic all the time when I first started my locks. The salt water locks you up quick and it treats any tender spots you might have on your scalp. I live in Denver now where there is no ocean and decided to lock my hair again. It's taken me 2 years for my hair to mature and break out of the awkward phase.

I actually found this video helpful because I'm starting my loc process through the two strand method, and tbh I was bout to drop a smooth $50 on some products and it turns out that using them ain't gonna help my hair too much. Thanks for the tips cus this is really gonna save me some bread.
Honestly appreciate tf out of your vids they're so helpful. Started free forming less then a month ago and it's coming out perfect because of your them.
You don’t need any products at all.... leave your hair alone and it will loc eventually period no matter how straight it will loc eventually. Just be patient

You are actually right about the hair wash. I workout 6 days a week, and my locks are 3 weeks old, i honestly feel it is following the process.
10 weeks in first time ever getting and I'm loving the outcome. They are 2-4 inches and have a slight reddish brown sun bleach going on. I can't wait to see where I'll be at in a full year.

Bro this is the keys maan i was struggling with my hair bc i do sports like 5 times a week and i really have to shower so i didn‘t know if showering does unravle my starter dreads but now that you say that the more i shower the better my hair lock up! i am ready go in this journey maan thanks gunther🔥🔥
Thanks bro for the information!
Free form is the best way 💯!
I saw your video upon the dread look crochet hook I ordered it last week from Amazon an I got it 3 days ago even though I had my dreads 13. Years it's the best thing I coulda ever bought so thank you for your advice. I love love love it. It puts my loose hairs right back in my dreads. I wish I woulda bought it years ago. Lol,
thank you gunther!
I’ve heard so much differing information over the past 6 months since I’ve started my locs. Still trying to figure out what’s right although I’ve seen a lot of positives (budding, growth, etc). I live in a colder climate and feel like that affects my scalp amongst others things (diet, exercise, etc) I feel like I have to use some kind of oil especially in the winter months. Based on this video I want to try washing once a week and hopefully that will help my scalp produce some natural oil.
G back with another one👍
I've had mine for 1 year and 5 months now. A little uncommon but started out with braidlocs 👌🏾
Thanks for this video! Just subscribed!!

When you wash your hair do you just put water or you use shampoo or conditionner as well ?

Ayyy I’m free forming too! I’m pretty sure i have the same type of hair as you and it already started to lock! I shower every morning of the week and it’s all going good! Also doing that 100 push-ups a day for a month thing for the second time, it really helps. Thanks Gunther for all of this!👍🏽

Dude, THANK YOU! I had my daughter section my hair and microlink it. Last week I spent 24 solid hours dreading 170 sections, lol. Came out great. It’s been 1 week. I’m about to wash for 1st time and wanted to do some research before I fucked anything up.😂 This video has helped me SO much! I really appreciate you and I’ll be all up in your videos for LIFE now!🤣 TYVM❤ I’ll keep you posted. I’ve got the crochet needles. It’s lookin frizzy and a couple have come loose, but so now ima wash it and go through em all
Ok i have water based dreadlock gel suggest twisting gel to start plus using tools for matureing process?? For straight hair ?
this helped so much
I wasn't sure if I should watch this since my dreads is currently only a thought. Lol. Glad I did so for when I do, I know where to get the crotchet hook. 😝
I just started my locking journey and last week i did the crochet method. My locs was VERY frizzy and LOTS of loose strands. I tried more crochet but wasnt good enough. So i bought a locking gel and the before and after is night and day! I used the crochet doing some touch ups as i was use thr locking gel and it worked pretty well. Now the frizz isn't 100% gone but looks alot less bummy than what it was before
Tbh I would just stick to whatever washing schedule you had before dreads. Unless you wash it everyday
Im gana use water based gel i have clean dry hair will a salt spray help? Will other tool be a good combo for drradlocks?
My hair is naturally dry, I was about to buy a bunch of moisturizers and oils to start and speed up the process, and it would’ve slowed down and even hindered the process. 🤯 Great advice, thanks for the video, really.
Im feeling the intro.
@gunther , did you use the needle when you had dreads? I was thinking about using them, but I want to have the option to comb out my dreads in the future
Great vid have a nice Thanksgiving🦃🥖🍞🍜
It's been 10 months for me. I have super straight, thin hair. I have never used any product and since the first time I got sectioned and back combed I have washed my hair twice a week. My hair doesn't coil, so I don't want to call it locs. More like sectioned matted hair. I'm so beyond over people assuming that I don't/can't wash my hair. And also people telling me to use bees wax/ hair gel.
Gunther, can you do a video on a washing process and washing combo for locking. Our hair types are similar and I find that I wash and then condition, that makes my hair type more soft and curly preventing my locking. Thanks 👍😎
Lol I’m 9 years in with my locs this video makes me laugh

100% I cant understand his logics . This is my 4th year of having mine ant I wash them daily
The first time I tried dreads was in 05, comb coil method with twist gel. FAIL! My hair unravels easily and curls right back up if I don't manipulate it. Parts of my hair doesn't even curl its just wavy and kind of straight. I gave up and went back to cornrows then eventually shaved all my hair off. 2 years later I discoverd the crochet hook method. It worked & I've had locs hella times since then. 😂 Always get bored around year 2. Currently working on a new set I think this time I'm going to stick with locs since I keep coming back to them.
hey Gunther, so far I use oil,I stopped using it. what should I use
That is the exact crochet hook I bought, I was so lost trying to use it. I gave up. Watched videos then tried again, gave up again. I wash my hair once a week even before I started my locs. I use living proof shampoo.
Only products I use is the Jamaican mango and lime locking gel

I just started locking my hair. I’m three months into it and my ends are having a hard time coming together. I have really soft hair and the person who is maintaining my hair says to not wash my hair…well I washed it and my scalp feels a lot better. I think I will take your advice and not oil it so much, but my scalp gets very dry because it absorbs like a sponge. What’s your recommendation?
So after I get my hair twisted I should be using locking gel to help it lock up faster?
Do u these methods work with all types of hair ? What problems will you run into with thin hair?

would retwisting straight hair dreads with gel work?

I have a question can I wash my hair with the dreads in and if I do will they come out and what do I twist it with
If you have starter locs using twisting gel and just oil for your scalp is fine when you’re retwisting tbh just don’t douse your hair in oil everyday after that and wash your hair after a couple weeks
