3 Reasons Not To Buy One | Royal Enfield Himalayan FAQ #3

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

The Himalayan, as good as it's become in this new generation, has a few flaws, some of which can get in the way. Here's three reasons not to get one. First, the engine. As nice as it is to use, the engine is not a smooth one. It's constantly buzzing the pegs, the bar also buzzes quite a bit and that's below our expectations from what is otherwise a pretty smooth and slick experience. For some of us, that buzz, especially between 90 and 105 is, erm, buzzkill. Second, the finish. The Himalayan feels robust and quality is good overall but the attention to detail needs improvement. From certain bolts, a series of open tubes where rust could start, to wiring that's more unruly than a badly behaved six-year old, the Himalayan, when you look closer loses some of its sheen. Third, we think it's going to be super popular. And while it does sound strange to hold its popularity against it, if you're the sort who wants a motorcycle that few other people have, the Himalayan is destined to be too popular for your taste. Also, if you're planning to buy one, we do suggest you wait a bit which should solve the missing tubeless spoked rims as well as any initial issues that might occur.

    I rode this himalayan around 6500kms in a month. I really didn’t found anything like you have mentioned. I travelled from Jammu to Goa and Return, there’s not even a single point where I thought i made a wrong decision to bought this. I am very satisfied and i think it’s worth to spend money on this ADV compared to its competitors.

Maybe due it was crashed by previous tester the LHS mirror was broken. Surprisingly gear shift was smooth. Tank & seat vibe disappeared in motion. Surge at 3k was awesome. I am 5'8" was able to flat foot at front edge of seat with sport shoes. With riding boot it will be more comfortable. Will be taking long test ride in nxt week. I have Yamaha R15 also so I know what refinement and quality I expect thats why I never purchased a RE before because their quality was worst but trust me this is totally a new breed from RE you can blindly buy one now, it has no competition that can beat it in this price also the Showa suspension is extremely good. For your height they even have a scooped seat for more planted foot position. Liquid cooled engine is also best.

    The new Himalayan has an 81.5 mm stroke length. The Triumph 400s measure at 64 mm. Considering the longer stroke, if the buzz is similar, I think that's pretty good. And yes, I will definitely be waiting for early batch issues to be sorted and for the tubeless rims to be launched. Let's see if the upcoming 390 Adventure can up the game. It has to. When the Himalayan is this good, KTM has no choice but to outdo it.

    Shumi, I have heard rumours that only Kamet White is going to get the Tubeless Rims, which might retrofit in terms of color easily with all other models except Hanle Black. The golden rims on hanle black were reported to have some quality issues when tested with Tubeless cross spoked rims. I have to verify the sources but I read rumours. This is likely why Kamet White costs highest price in west and not the Hanle Black. Unfortunately if the Hanle Black doesn't get Tubeless Cross Spoked rims in black then it'd be a shame to pay so much extra for it. IMO, Kamet White also looks best (I have a Hanle black and I still envy the White).

    THere is a reason for spoked wheels, most tourers/off roaders have these. This is for the higher strength that's needed to hold the wheel in cases of strong bumps which are common on such terrains.

    The issues you mentioned are things you can expect before going to your dealer: 1. A single-cylinder engine will produce a certain amount of vibrations, this is physics. If you want a silky smooth engine, opt for a twin or a four-cylinder bike. 2. A Himalayan will cost about 1/3 of, say, a BMW GS. If you expect a GS-like fit and finish, go and pay GS money. You just get what you pay for. 3. Having a little patience until everything is available (in Europe, the entire bike will only come in spring) is less of an argument against the bike itself, but rather one to wait for a few months, since tubeless tires are confirmed, completely developed and already applied on some review bikes for the press. In all, this clip just reminds everyone of being realistic and to not travel too far on the hype train

    Whenever a new product is launch or an upgrade with major changes, like in case of 450 the engine, it’s always best to hold on to your purchase till the next update. As most of the time the manufacturers tone down those issues which were occurring in the first iteration. This was evident with 411 carb version as when the RE introduced the fi engine for the BS4 version at that time they had cleared most of the issues. So the new product is always a tried and error thing for the company. So i feel it’s always best to postpone your purchase for the next version, unless you have surplus funds to spend.

But motorcycles are trying to self destruct due to being geared way too low in 6th gear with no overdrive on any motorcycle. Wtf.

    @@bsviky yeah boss, They're also designed to break at a certain point along the length. But I don't trust a motorcycle that is so top heavy that a stationary fall bends the lever. Neither my ADV nor my duke nor my impulse ever bent their levers in that fashion over flat ground

    411cc making 24bhp is not what I'd call powerful, but that's what you're getting when you use 100 year old tech. Part of the charm.

    Hi Im thinking of buying Royal Enfield meteor 350 aurora blue. Only problem is it comes with spoke wheels with tube tyres. Is there any possibility of that bike getting tubeless spokes as standard? Or what shoud i do? Stellar and fireball have too much dark colours. Can you please suggest something?

    We don't believe that you can get tubeless spokes on the Meteor at all, ST. Your best option might be to get the Aurora and add the alloys back (which is more money spent, obviously)

    Shumi sir, one thing I need to get a clear picture from you. Last week I had been to a 650 km one side ride. While returning back I was cursing in between 90-100kph on the highway on my Gixxer SF250. And then I saw this crazy Himalayan 411 bikers fully loaded doing crazy speeds at above 120kph. Do you think the older 411 Himalayan is still better than the new Himalayan especially in the engine compartment. Btw whenever I go to long rides on my Gixxer, because of its riding position I do get a lot of body pain all over the body. I’m planning to trade it to TVS Ronin as it is much more comfortable for my built of 5’4” and 68 kilos weight. For me the speeds of 90-105 kph would do fine. Any suggestions?

  • @motorinc

    @motorinc

    5 ай бұрын

    Vishwas, the old 411s could hit 120, but not as well as the new engine can - it's nearly maxxed out at that point. There's no aspect in which we can say that the 411 is better than the new one, TBH

    Don't wait for the tubeless spokes. The government's reluctance to approve them, due to their association with a Chinese manufacturer (the sole producer of tubeless rims), suggests approval may not be imminent. However, the other two points are valid.

    Hey Nicolas! We're in India and unfortunately Fantic isn't sold here so we've no way of helping you here. We can tell you that the Himalayan by itself is a very nice motorcycle that does so many things beautifully - and it'll manage the a'bahn, streets and off-road easily. But we don't know of the Fantic 500 is better on not.

  • @motorinc

    @motorinc

    5 ай бұрын

    We can! But the short version is that there no helmets where wind noise is not a problem. _NONE!_ The safer thing to so - and it's important you do - is buy earplugs and use them on all motorcycle rides. We all do here at MotorInc.
