I must say, I really do enjoy your videos. They’re a nice treat! A shame that Miller’s estate (or whoever holds her copyrights) would want to limit the number of people familiar with her work. It’s 2021, the next generation isn’t going to realize she ever existed if it they aren’t exposed to her work. And they aren’t likely going to be doing much of that offline.

Thank you T. for another inspiring video! I appreciated your original first Lee Miller video, but please NEVER be discouraged about being silenced by the estate minders. Lee Miller unfortunately will be further pushed down in awareness thanks to them and I am sure she would not have wanted that. Anyway ... more examples and interpretation of Model please. I love your work and the ethic, "Look With Intention" is now with me everyday thanks to you. / N

It is definitely too bad they wouldn't allow you to share Lee Miller's work. I only knew of her in reference to Man Ray, and didn't know about her own work. I think you should start changing outfits and backgrounds throughout your videos from now on. It's unfortunate people don't always agree with fair use, especially when bringing even more accolades on an artist. I find it interesting in "Page From Métal" that there is an essentially masculine subject smack dab in the middle of her collection of industrial landscapes. Keep up the interesting work.

Re the Miller situation, I have noticed recently that a number of images by certain artist have been removed from some sites like a Google image search. It is worrying to think that after a period where almost all images were publicly available, they now are disappearing at an alarming rate. Have you noticed this trend. Thank you for your effort to educate us.

@@TatianaHopper thanks for the reply. Just to be clear, it was when I was searching for an image by jeanloup Sieff in Google and the results page had only about 50% images and the rest, random, were white blank boxes. When I clicked on one of the blank boxes it said the image had been removed. Like you I search for images from time to time for illustration purposes, not for printing or copying, but this recent practice if removing images for copyright reasons is a little disturbing. Thank you for your continued excellence effort to educate us. Many thanks.

Let me suggest one of the names for future "Eastern/Russian/Soviet" episode. It is Boris Smelov (Борис Смелов). He is known as brighest representative of Leningrad school of photography, who dedicated his work to city he lived in-Leningrad and later on Saint-Petersburg. And to be more precised-to time, linking 1980ies with archiecture of XIX-XVIII centuries or artefacts from Russian Empire pictured as still lives in late-soviet era. I can call him as a "visual teacher", who inspired and shaped my view in beginning of my photographic path.

Don't be intimidated by whining loud mouths in regard to using material. In both England and the USA there are components of copyright law called "fair use" and "fair dealing.". In both you are protected when you review or study or critique any kind of work.

I view all art, photography in particular like science. It belongs to humanity as a whole, and not to a particular race, creed, religion or individuals with deep pockets. I think it is a sad world that a few rich people or organisations can have such hold over artistic work. It is worth remembering that in the majority of cases, the artists themselves did not benefit financially from their own work during their life time, and it is utterly absurd that after their death, the copy right of their work lands in the hands of a few greedy people. I believe that they should be in the public domain.

@@TatianaHopper Very few people know that Ansel Adams, donated his original negatives and prints from the, Manzanar project, to the Library of Congress. This is a truly beautiful body of work, much unlike what he is famous for. He felt so strongly about the injustice that was done to Japanese Americans and their encampment in Manzanar following the Harbour attack, that he wanted to keep his work in the public domain so people would know. I wish more people would do like he did. It has not affected the commercial value of his landscape photography though.

The former photographers were more creative and had more sense for the moment I think. And that with way less technique possibilities of the cameras. All manual and often without built in light meter. Each shot was much difficult to get without automatics off all kinds of modern cameras. Mor expression at all.
