Okay so as a beginner, you will get this a lot, learn chords, scales, music theory, but also bring in some fun don't just learn that, learn covers of your favorite song, try to learn by ear after 2-3 months of playing. Scales will help you find chords this is why scales are important cause it helps you find what key you are in. But again at the end of the day just have fun when not practicing.

The struggle with Bohemian Rhapsody was so relatable. Thanks for showing the imperfect attempts, it's important that people see that. Having said that, I have no idea how you progressed so far in 3 months without having your fingers fall off. I started studying classical guitar (…actually, flamenco) at the age of thirteen with no prior musical training whatsoever. So, only nylon strings and my fingers were cut and bleeding all the time. I still have a callous on the tip of my third finger that I have to sand with a 320 grit sanding sponge before I play my electric guitars, today! By the time I was fifteen, I was starting to transition to electric guitars.

I suspect the “secret” to Meike’s progress is due to a number of things: First and foremost, her violin experience - - the ear training alone was a big advantage when she started guitar. And, the violin slowly built up the skin thickness on her fingers. She probably had a lot less down time because of trauma to her left hand than most of us did. She also probably paid a lot more attention to things like timing and posture (…although, admittedly, her posture is not all that great in her videos). To be a good musician you have to embrace timing and that can be pretty boring when you’re a student. I could gig and knock out three chords all night when I was a teenager but after I learned about syncopation, I was pretty much ruined as a rhythm guitarist.

Amazing job for just 3 months! As a guitarist with 15 years or so of experience I think I have few tips that may help you a lot if you didn't fix them already since its a bit old of a video :) - The way you hold the pick is weird, kind like you are holding a pen, which makes picking the strings a much harder task that what it could be and builds a lot of tension. - Don't be shy to use your pinky in the fretting hand during solos, it may take a bit to make it strong enough but it helps a lot into flowing a bit more confortably through the keyboard. - You are already starting with a strong sense of rhythm, which for most guitarist it takes years of work to get to this point (I image you have a solid background in other instruments or dance or something idk). You can get quite good results in a year or so if you focus properly on hand posture, tension management and foundamental techniques like picking (upstrokes, downstrokes, alternate picking, economy picking), muting strings (for noise and for effects like palm muting), bending, hammer-ons, pull-offs and arpeggios... better if with the help of a teacher, but to be fair there are some youtube channels who have enough content about it to make a teacher redundant if you have enough discipline

I must say the awesome feedback of my teacher really helped me improve a lot. Some feedback was all i really needed to get started and knowing i was doing it right and not teaching myself something while i am probably playing it totally wrong. ive been learning guitar for 2 years im 16 and self taught in my first 4 months i was able to do guitar for my advanced higher music exam, what im saying is if you enjoy playing guitar you will progress faster dont force yourself to play if you don want to play listen to music you like and then try play that if you want. Simotaniously your music taste and guitar skill will increase and because its all about enjoyment and wonder of the guitar community and generosity from online teachers and tutorial channels that make beginners into professionals im only just a 2 year player and i can confidently say im at the intermediate stage because of my excessive hours of just having fun on guitar playing along to backing tracks and feeling cool keep up the work and i hope for anyone whos a beginner to take my advice and adapt it remotley into their practice by not making it a chore but a hobby

Blues does help a lot and it's the basis for most genres but if you plan on getting into more modern prog and metal and mathrock-y songs, be advised that it feels like another language so I would recommend you just learn blues and stuff but start gravitating towards the style you want to have pretty early on because when you have 5 years of blues and rock experience and you start learning prog rock and metal and mathrock it's quite complicated

This is actually super inspiring to watch. I have wanted to learn the guitar for longer than I can remember! I always loved listening to my dad play as I fell to sleep, but I've never had the motivation to actually learn myself. I've tried a few times but I'd always lose steam after the first week or so when I didn't feel like I was making any progress. But seeing your 3 month progress helps me realize that if I just stick with it, I can do it! So thank you for posting this and thank you for inspiring me to finally pick up my guitar, sit down and learn to play for real. That's my 2023 goal, to learn to play guitar :)

Great video and amazing progress in 3 months! I'd like to point out something to maybe help beginner guitar players avoid being discouraged. In the video you can notice how for example Crazy Train sounded a lot better than the Bohemian rhapsody solo but was recorded before. And this is something you will encounter often during your learning curve in guitar, you get good like really good and then you try something new or something different and it won't sound great but it isn't because you're getting worse at the guitar it's simply like learning a new language. Say for example you learn Jimi Hendrix and you get to a point where you can improvise pretty decent solos and medleys of his songs, then you start getting into Polyphia or Jason Richardson and you can't play the 1st 3 bars of a song... It's literally like learning a new language so don't get discouraged if you feel like you're getting bad or that you aren't getting better, it's absolutely normal and you aren't by any means getting worse because you improve with practice as you can see the end result of the Bohemian rhapsody solo which is great by the way!

Advice that genuinely made me see faster progress when learning the acoustic guitar, which applies to all instruments; be consistent. Don't pick your instrument twice a week and practice for hours straight, instead, try to fit in at least a few minutes of practice every day. An example of how much that changed for me, a week ago, before applying consistent practice (and that with months of inconsistent practice), I still had some issues with finger placement, picking and moving my hand across frets without looking down to the arm. That will also build confidence, which helps tremendously when learning new things.

IMO, this is the magic of learning guitar, especially self taught ppl, you play in your own way, weird picking grip, slight mistakes in tone and timing, growing calluses and so on, then you improve and realize you can play easier if you do this, you can play better if you do this, your calluses aren't that obvious anymore that your fingers look normal but they're very hard at the tip, until you look like an advanced guitar player. you play like textbook style guitar or something and ppl will ask if you took music lessons and you feel good saying "no, im self taught".

I started off as a self taught guitarist slightly before the pandemic hit, and in 3 months there is absolutely no way I could bend a note as accurately as you did (most of the time pahaha), I'd say my biggest tip, which is very obvious of course, is to not fall into the trap of playing a piece that youre learning all the way through each and every time you practice it. Take the smallest snippets and go at PAINFULLY slow speeds, I mean painfully slow. Additionally, what i've recently found to be very very VERY useful is dissecting a new piece that I learn, and see why it actually works over the chords. CAGED is a gift sent from the heavens so take your time to learn that too! And of course... don't play stairway to heaven in a guitar store :D
