I smoke cannabis--- it was cramped from the spinal and legs bites it got. I was waiting for the lions to bite off his testicles and get it over with. That bite always grounds them and so the feeding can commence. Poor beast breathing like a 200 ton machine exhaust .God is magnificent .But I wish when prey are caught by predators it would just die and avoid the horror of being eaten alive. So evil 😫Dining while food breathes 😞....Sad!!

They had damaged his back leg joints. They do this for this very reason, to incapacitate them so they can’t run. Then they wear them down to exhaustion. It’s a tedious process but the only way to bring down the big game. Sad to watch but is nature at it’s finest.

Lions don't usually eat their prey alive. They go for the neck and for quick death before start munching. In this case buffalo's horns are too dangerous and the bull itself is very strong so attacking the neck can cause serious injury to lionesses. This is why they went from behind but you cannot die quickly when you're being eaten from your legs and ass. They don't have a choice by waiting for it to die which will take hours so its better they just start eating before hyenas show up. Wild dogs on the other hand almost always eat their prey alive because they are much weaker with small teeth. They can't go for the neck.

That buffalo looked like an old man, but damn.. he was a warrior. Fascinating (and sad/disturbing) that the lions began eating him before he had died. I have seen people in comment sections say vicious things about Painted Wolves (Cape Hunting Dogs, Wild Dogs, etc) who often begin eating their prey alive because they often don't have time before larger predators arrive, and yet I have seen two videos in recent days of lions engaged in the same behavior, and they are top predators. Nature is savage, and clearly doesn't have time for niceties. I was surprised they brought the cubs so quickly, too. Buffalo are very dangerous.

That is quite a tough bull, as he is bitten to death, which likely means the lionesses fail to suffocate him. Quite life or death struggle for both sides. With another buffalo available, three lionesses have disadvantage on strength, and if they get charged, they can be wounded severely. Even not so, taking so much effort for no food will be terrible already. On the other hand, the buffalo does fight with his best until the end. Actually, they both have to fight until the end, which is what means by survival.

Fascinating animal psychology. The Bull seemingly had a number of opportunities to go rejoin the herd but his want to hit or punish those lions overtook the zone of safety. Then it seemed when the other Buffalos were assisting, they sniffed the injury spots to see if the Bull was mortally wounded and as such, give up the defense. Interesting that the ladies didn't go for the nose or throat, their jaws were too small. It was also pretty clear they were tired and once they had him down and severed his leg muscles they took a break while the others started feeding. It must've taken an incredible amount of energy to bring this guy down.

There's so much about nature/animals we don't (and may never) know. I was thinking about the same thing as you - I truly believe animals have some sixth sense that may allow them to understand injury/sickness. Maybe severely injured/dying animals give off certain pheromones that others of the same species can sense/interpret? Or maybe animals they can sense when their fellow members have simple given up? Fascinating stuff indeed.

If he could, he would but then again the lions would just jump on his back and done even more damage to his backbone. He ran out of enery as the lions attacking him in every angles possible. He is an old bull and the weakest obviously, thats why predators go for the weakest one. If the other bulls didn't give up on him, then it would have been a different story and he would live to tell the tale.

I'll fight u in Comments the original poster is correct. The bull had enough energy and mobility to charge the lions the first couple of times his friend tried to save him. But whyyyyy😩🤷🏾‍♀️🤷🏾‍♀️🤷🏾‍♀️? He should have run in the direction of the herd not use precious energy to try to punish the lions 🤔. The bull was playing right into the lions hands by isolating himself from the herd and trying to charge them. The lions would have never gone after him if he would have run and hid amongst the herd . The bull did not make wise decisions if his motive was to live. The other bulls gave up on him because they could tell that he was already lion food even though he was still standing. Since he didn’t run back to the herd after the first and second chances, the lions continued to damage him and eventually immobilized him. The other bulls said “sorry old chap - it was good to know you” and bailed. What else were they supposed to do - CPR🤷🏾‍♀️?
