3 Lenses I REGRET not buying SOONER! Fujicrons

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

3 Lenses I REGRET not buying SOONER! Fujicrons. These small standard f2 prime lenses have changed the way I look at Fujifilm equipment.Do I regret not buying these lenses sooner, you bet! Initially I thought they were kind of cheap looking but decided to buy the Fuji 23 f2 first. It reminded me of my Leica 35 Summicron which i was hoping to emulate to some extent. I was blown away by what I could do with this lens. Paired with the Fuji X-T30 its a wonderful small package and i love it. So I began to think about how the Fuji 35 f2 would be. It's about the same size and exactly the same build quality. So I was able to find one used for a great price and again I was blown away by the quality of the lens. Small, light, and dam sharp even wide open!. So you can guess what I started thinking next. Well if the Fuji 23 f2 and Fuji 35 f2 are that nice I bet the Fuji 50 f2 is great too. I was not wrong as I again found a great used copy.

I came to Fujifilm from full frame Nikon DSLRs, but to make the transition I had to know that I was not compromising quality. The 35mm f/2 Fujicron was the lens that on my first outing let me know that I could leave my bulky, heavy Nikon at home and just use my (then) X-T2 with the tiny f/2 lens and come back with first class images. Today, I own all the Fujicrons plus their faster equivalent lenses which gives me options when the light is low or I need selective focus that only an f/one-point-something aperture can give on APS-C, but a person could be very productive with only those tiny Fujicrons.

Good review and images. I love he 'Crons' and include within the definition the 16/f2.8. I have that lens and the 23/f2 and the 50/2. I only want to carry three lenses with my XE4 so reckon I can crop images taken with the 23/f2 if I need to, but there are times I want to go wider than 23, hence the 16. These three lenses serve me well for city breaks, and we have our next city visit booked to Vienna (Christmas markets in Dec 23) and I will take these three. Thanks.

I love your lens reviews. My favourites are the newer 33mm f1.4 and 23 f1.4. I still use the beautiful 16-55mm, but the lighter weight and optical perfection of the newer lenses make them a joy to use. I’m an amateur, albeit for 50 or so years of photography in PNG, where I lived for some time, the UK and Europe, where I also lived for some time, travelling around the world (including parts of the USA) and Australia where I live and came from originally. Here in Oz the natural light can be powerful or dull, according to season and time of day. The sky is bluer than many other places and the landscapes are spectacularly beautiful, so much to enjoy. I love seeing your world and your photographic work in beautiful photographs, and also admire your experience and creative talents. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and photographs. Always enjoyed.

I do think the 23, 35, and 50mm f/2 are "sleeper" lenses that many people would enjoy! They work great on my XPro3 due to their small size. I also like using them on my XH-1. I did borrow the 35/2 one time, and I wasn't happy with it; it appeared too flat to me, no separation at all. If I use 35mm lens on an APSc camera, it's gotta be at least f1.4. The Fujicrons are fantastic, the problem is its hard to justify buying the 'main' 1.4 versions when there is only a stop difference and often worse AF (or at least used to be). I won't be buying a 23/1.4 or 33/1.4 till they make them faster. Owning the 50/1 and the 50/2 for example makes a lot of sense, one is a no holds barred portrait lens, the other is the compact all rounder. How I wish Fuji pushed the envelope a little on the newer updated 23 and 33 and made them f1.2 or f1.0's.

  • @KirkWilliamsonphotography

Eddy I agree. Although the old slow 23 and 35 1.4's have a nice different look to them that is hard to beat. The newer ones are to clinically sharp for me. I totally agree on the 50 f1 and 50 f2. What a great way to put it.

  • @SummersSnaps

@@KirkWilliamsonphotography It just feels like Fuji is in a unique situation with the APS-C sensor that they are not quite fully capitalizing on. How many other brands could sell two primes of the same focal length to one buyer? Namely a tiny, compact, travel, excellent AF and decently fast prime (the Fujicrons), whilst simultaneously selling a super fast (but gigantic) prime that's intent is on deliberate, slower controlled work (portrait shoots etc) where clawing back some of that FF look (and of course useful for event work/low light). I can't help shake the feeling that selling f1.4 lenses is right in the middle of these extremes and nerfs the potential for owners to own two of the extremes. Someone with a 1.4 isn't going to bother with a f2 or a f1.2/f1.0 variant (should it exist), it harms sales I think and is the safe 'lazy' lens approach from Fuji. Perhaps there is room for all the lenses to exist (f2, 1.4 and 1.2/1.0) and let the customer choose which ones they want...

If you are new at Fuji and want to do street photography - just buy them! Don't overthink it. They are everything you need.

I agree! But they can be used for so much more than street photography.

I have all three also. They are incredibly. I have a small bag that can take one body and all three together. My wife calls it my man purse.

Yes just walking around with a small bag with one camera and three lenses is great.

Sorry to say I don't have any of them. That's what comes of getting side tracked by vintage lenses. 😏

Neville - You can find a really good used price on all of them. I love my 23 and 35 the 50 I have to get used to.

You lost me in the first 2 min. If you own a Leica, why are you using any other camera?

I’m a photojournalist. The Leica is my legacy system I use for fun. For the work I do for our daily paper the Leica is not the camera of choice. I learned 45 years ago you can’t shoot sports CD with an M.
