This is better than many so called karate dojo out there. The meaning of kata is much important than the "correct" position of kata.

I really like he explains practical application of kata people told me they were just tradition and not all have application I think the purpose of them is becoming lost to some places I like he teaches that. It could just be my limited experience with 空手 as I'm very much a beginner to these arts and misconceptions defanantly effected my perception of these awesome & beautifull martial arts

@@tustudyis4life51 Every move in all 26 of the traditional Kata has bunkai associated with it. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

I have studied the video quite a few times, and definitely see how the sprawl is more practical and logical to explain the movement especially in Kusanku. Most teachers and the bunkai show a duck for an attack with a staff. Thank you for the video. 👍🙌

The explanation about how you should angle your opponent away from you (at around 5"17) is the application I think of everytime I practice the opening moves from Pinan Sandan. Congats Oliver on your entry in the Bellator, hope to see some of your fights soon ! Btw : thanks Jesse, your channel is one of the few YT channels that got me back into Karate :)

Looks like Karate (or To-De in former times) was the ultimate MMA back in the days but many kata were encrypted so much, that their meaning got lost in time. Therefore it is wonderful to see the brotherly dynamic duo Jesse and Oliver showing us the relevance of certain movements in Karate kata. Absolutely love it! PS: Found this channel just a few weeks ago and still catch up with all the great content! Well done!

Congrats Oliver... also a great video. I practice traditional Kung fu, wing chun, seven star praying mantis, and yang tai chi, and I am taught what all the moves in the forms(or kata) are for. Every move has a purpose. It is always a pleasure watching your videos Jesse . It helps keeping traditional martial arts voice out there. I do get tired of hearing how TMA is outdated. It is not,you just have to find the right teacher . Keep up the great work..been a subscriber for well over a year now and just love your stuff.

@Oh Yeah Yeah I blame those over the top wuxia movies/TV series for that. They're cancerous yet popular that some dojos/gyms started teaching students flashy moves instead of the more practical ones. Though what I hate the most is that they corrupted children's mind. Just imagine you teach in a dojo then a little student asks you "When will I be able to fly like in those movies?" In one hand, crushing the dream of an innocent kid makes you feel bad. But on the other hand, letting his imagination run wild is bad for the development of his martial skills.
