3 Jerry Reed Licks From 1979
Музыка
Hey everyone1 Here's the next episode of Three-For-All with 3 Jerry Reed Licks From 1979. I've had a number of requests to feature some of Jerry Reed's timeless guitar playing/music, and I've honestly been a fan since I was a little kid (while watching various TV programs with my dad) and noticed Jerry's playful sense of humor, endless energy, and a healthy dose of some truly wicked guitar playing, so without further ado - let's dive in!
The licks/ideas shared in this lesson came from a TV appearance from 1979 featuring Jerry, along with a clip of him playing alongside another giant of the guitar - the late-great blues legend B.B. King. The ideas shared here include a crafty blues-style position-shifting phrase, a funky slip-n-slide idea, a jazzy chromatic run, a slick funky blues lick featuring some wicked flamenco-style pickhand strumming at the end, and much more!
Needless to say, if you're a Jerry Reed or classic country fan, or maybe a player searching for some fresh ideas to stick in their lick bag - this episode is totally for you! Give this episode a view, leave some comments/feedback, and please subscribe to Late Night Lessons - THANK YOU!

I was talking to my buddy the other day who had NO idea that Jerry Reed could play guitar. and not just play guitar, but was one of the best guitar players of all time. he was stunned.
Jerry could lay it down.....all over tv in 70s
I love how diverse the musical influences are on this channel and that alone makes this one of the better channels on KZread, thanks for another wicked awesome video David!
Thanks for the great lesson. I love Jerry Reed’s playing.
Jerry Reed, Roy Clark, Glen Campbell … awesome players

don't forget Buck Owens.
I was a Jerry Reed fan since I was a kid. My dad was a truck driver so you know he took us to see Smokey and the Bandit when it came out. I didn't even know he was a musician until I saw him on Hee Haw. I always get funny looks when I'm in a discussion with people about great guitarists when I mention Jerry Reed but I tell them to really listen to his playing and it can't be denied that he was a great guitarist. I think his comedic nature is the reason his guitar skills get over looked but that's one of the things I like about him, he looks like he's having a blast while performing. RIP Snowman
I never knew of Jerry until Smokey and the bandit. I was a heavy metal guy until You Tube My God what I’ve been missing
In an interview of Glenn Campbell he basically said he could play just about everything but had some trouble on some of Jerry's stuff.
Eastbound and down.. Loaded up and trucking! Awesome!
This guy's a good teacher. Thumbs up!
Jerry Reed! nice!
Look at that Tele!!!! The Rhythm guitarist choice! Betcha she's set up perfectly!
The Guitar Man . The Claw he was an unbelievable guitar player he was a player in every sense . Love his music great sense of humor too
Thanks Dave ...perfect timing ... just got my Tele back .
Jerry Reed was the best.
I don’t usually comment on Jerry Reed videos, although I love seeing them through everyone of his band, but I love this one in particular and saved it. Also, I was his bass player for many years. Thank you for sharing this and keeping his memory alive and also remember he was a cartoon character. He was on Scooby Doo lol
Jerry went to my church; the guy was a total badass. RIP Jerry !
Son!!! What a great episode. The original guitar man.

Yeah… it’s pretty much over when you get Buck Owens, Roy Clarke and Jerry Reed together… And of course mix in the others you mention…. Oof- Guitar fun at its greatest!
knocked it out of the park again Dave!
Woooo! JR!
Been waiting for this 🍺’ski. Jerry Reed also wrote great guitar pieces for Chet Atkins. Campell, Reed, & Atkins just killer players! TY again
Love Jerry Reed. He is my idol.
East Bound and Down is one of my favorites from Jerry. I always enjoyed watching him as a kid too. Thanks for sharing!
Great lesson, thank you!
Awesome thx David. I have always admired Pete Anderson from the old Dwight Yoakum albums. To my ear Pete was doing things that no one else was doing.
DAVID.. I AM ABSOLUTELY BLOWN AWAY WITH YOUR INFORMATIVE VIDEO'S.. YOUR COMMUNTARIE'S ON WHATEVER VIDEO LESSON YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT.. I AM JUST SO ENTHRALLED WITH YOUR PLAYING AND VIDEO'S..I THINK THAT YOU AND I ARE CUT FROM THE SAME CLOTH.. JUST A PHENOMENAL GUITARIST 🎸 YOU ARE.. THANK YOU FOR THE UPLOADING OF YOUR VIDEO'S....
Love it. Its amazing how many country guitarist's of old are true master musicians.
If we could only have music like that again..Jerry was a genius.
Jerry Reed was amazing.
You cannot exceed my need for Jerry Reed
Jerry was one bad ass musician. Guitar Man is awesome
dude the video of Jerry playing Lightning Rod is the best guitar video on youtube
Greg Koch's playing reminds me of Jerry Reid re-incarnated. They both just seem to have a ton of fun doing what they do and it seems completely effortless even when they get complex and their simple stuff seems complex until you break it down. Great job. love your stuff.
Very cool……thanks Dave 🤘🏼👍
Awesome thanks! I saw Tommy Emmanuel last night at Sydney Opera house and he mentioned Jerry many times during the performance as a huge influence!
Kool stuff thanks for the share.
Great choice David thank you for giving ol Jerry a whirl. Jerry's Breakdown is my favorite tune by him. The man was a legend one of Chet's certified guitar players 🤘🤘✌️🖖
Jerry Reed was a master who made it look to easy all the while smiling. Incredible player. Watching him as a kid myself with Roy Clark, Chet Atkins etc. was fantastic. Alot of great playing and memories. Thx Dave great lesson. Keep up the great work 🎸

"The Alabama Wildman" lol
I was born in 1969. So first time I ever seen Jerry was in Smokey and the Bandit. My Dad watched Hee Haw all the time. But I honestly had no idea that was him on guitar until many years later. LOL

Yup, born February’69. My grandfather took me to see Smokey and the Bandit while vacationing in Florida. Loved Jerry and Burt together. I was a fan ever since!

@@midnightflyer7510 Same. Loved the Bloopers at the end. You seen a lot of his sense of humor "That's right...Now what do I say..." LOL Last time I remember him was in Waterboy. Funny in that one also!
Awesome stuff David keep rocking brother. Jery brushed shoulders with the legends Chet Atkins, Kristoffer Kristofferson etc etc etc!!!!1
First time I heard of Jerry Read was in the smokey and the bandit movies. I later learned he played on the Elvis Presley song guitar man. Brilliant guitarist, and singer.
Reed, Glen Campbell, and Roy Clarke were all fantastic players.
You, Sir, are a badass. You're a talented guitarist, teacher, and avid student of a diverse range of music. I appreciate what you do. Thank you.
Thank you for your great work,Chris.
Really brilliant David, thanks ❤
Nicely done!
That second lick is gold
Hey Sensei Dave! I’m on vacation and there’s a bunch of hillbilly red neck types in my facility! Thank you sir!
Jerry’s right hand technique was something that influenced my playing. The Glen Campbell show, Hee Haw, Roger Miller, etc were a part of growing up in the 60’s and 70’s for a lot of us. That’s why some of us play guitar, because of the great players and personalities that we saw on television. Jerry was a guy that was confident and cocky while being entirely disarming and entertaining. Chet was obviously the most revered of all the players that were on these shows. A guest appearance from Chet was a big deal for us, and everyone else. Roy Clark was the player that my Dad wanted me to emulate. He played the local clubs in the Baltimore/Washington area. I don’t think my Dad ever saw him live because he didn’t go to bars, but he knew of him somehow. Looking back, what a wonderful thing it was to have the opportunity to see these players every week. A major influence on my entire life. Thank you Dave for showcasing a few of Jerry’s licks. You had to have the entire package to appreciate Jerry. It was his delivery, his attitude, and his sense of humor that made him a star.
The most amazing thing to me about Jerry Reid is the song he wrote and played, Guitar Man. I love his music though, recommend listening to the song Amos Moses guitar part is killer! Then you have East Bound and Down from the movie I saw about 8 times at the theater as a 12 year old. When your hot your hot, She got the Gold Mine I got the shaft.
Another monster guitarist. Thanks for all the amazing lessons my friend
Over an hour ago... I cams across Jerry Reed guitar vid... less than an hour... I came across BB King vid... talking about the time he gave me a pin... then you post a video with both men.
Jerry Reed is truly "Da Man" !!! Not only a great guitar player / musician / entertainer , but he had a great personality that just drug you into whatever he was doing !!! Thanks for this !!!
Wow David I too loved the Snowman from the Smoky and the Bandit movie and then heard his badassery on guitar. Great lesson as usual. I love your channel .
😊 your one cool dude teacher , inspiring mellow approach ,breaking the licks down , letting you know the notes etc ,great idea also using the looper pedal ,thankyou for the inspiration
How do people get so damn good? He has been amazing since day one.. Great lesson!
Dude. Jerry has always been one of my favourites too. A mystery as well. More of this please! I think we are the same age too man. East Bound and Down and She Got the Goldmine are the first two songs I heard from him. Guitar Man. His and Elvis’ version 😊
Speaking of “crazy flamenco strumming “ check out Alan Haynes’s style! He owns it! Great video mate! 👍🇦🇺
Hey, would love to see an episode on Nile Rodgers!
Make it count SON!
Snowman...
L...O...V...E... Love IT! :)
Ya Jerry was like a court jester of country guitar. Funny as heck and could play some amazing things on the guitar.
Man your my favorite channel!
Great choice, Jerry Reed has long been a favorite of mine as well. These days I think he and Glen Campbell are more known for their hits, which is a shame. They were two of the best pickers of their time.
Jerry reed did some studio work for Elvis Presley. Elvis recorded some of his songs, U.S. male, Big &. Big boss man. He was a great picker. He made it look easy. Great lesson. Have you ever done a lesson for James Burton? Another great guitarist.
Hot damn! 😁
Cool man
Jerry Reed was the real deal for sure and a great guy to boot. A story about him not backing down to Elvis and his boss Colonel Parker about signing away his credits for a song Elvis was doing of Jerry's called, guitar man. Not many people could say no to the King and live to talk about it.
When Chet Atkins says you're great you are great
Pretty Marie sunlight on Scooby Doo episode. I met Jerry Reed in Vegas True Master player
So, so good man. EVERYTHING is so serious nowadays, if you’re looking for fun try out some Corb Lund, he’s my Jerry Reed of today, not as much Foghorn Leghorn MCing with the audience. But… HE IS FUN!!! Thanks Brewster for all the great content. 💪
Hee Haw! Roy Clark throws down!
Great video! Would you ever make a jj cale episode? I know he's not exactly like some of the other guys you've covered but! Still a great player
At some point we're going to get to Buster B Jones...also, the last video I watched of Jerry Reed he was going so hard he needed two footstools, no lie. Now I need a montage of all the pickers doing "blowin' in the wind", because somehow that seems to be a common thread.
Hey Dave. Great episode. Danny Gatton?
Guitar man.....and the claw tuning
Do some videos on Glen Campbell!
Amos Moses is another great lick - 'chicken pickin' I think he called it.
Have you done a video on Keith Scott?
We got a long way to go and a short time to get there.
I somehow mainly remember Jimmy Reed gettin beatin-up by a bike gang, stumbles to his big-rig w/black eye, starts his engines, laughs and proceeds to run over the gang's bikes... could be Smokey and the Bandit? Cannonball Run? Or a Kris Kristofferson movie? 🤔😄
Still waiting for a episode on the great Johnny Marr
I'm thinking it was HeeHaw grew up with the show, Scooby Doo , and Smokey:)
have you ever done a Jerry Garcia licks video?
Can u do a video on John 5

Hey! I did create one for John 5 about 3-4 years ago, so it's overdue to feature him again. In the meantime, here's a link to the lesson from a few years ago, so check it out and thanks! : ) kzread.info/dash/bejne/imipmpiypM2ylJc.html
I bet Steve Gaines liked him. U can hear. I know a little influence all over it
That's all he got left 'cause alligator bit it Left arm gone, clean up to the elbow..................
Who
Jerry Reed played clean only tiny amounts of tube amp distortion - even on hard core stuff like Amos Moses. Why does everyone who teaches on KZread add fuzzy distortion to everything??
you can play, or you can play
His playful nature was so refreshing compared to guitar players who seem to believe being godlike is cool...it ain't..know what's cool? Reed....Brewster...
Blah, blah, blah, first lick start’s at 2:50 You’re welcome.
Remember when Jerry was in metallica??? Certainly Metallicas best years.🤘
just say outright that "this video is a gofundme for a new pump".
your tone in this instance kinda sucks, sorry. it's flubby and clipped. needs punch. you can't "model" that tone in, you have to play clean and really snap the strings with authority. try say a tiny terror with the gain dialed way back, to like 10 o'clock, with reverb. nice CME shirt btw!
