Ive been playing for about 43 years now and this fellow right here is the only player I would consider taking lessons from - not only is his playing and choice of lessons fantastic, his grammar and thoughts come through so well. This is the type of music I want to learn and incorporate my soloing into … impeccable player and gent, deal me in boys. Parker

In my guitar player dreams, my room is filled with scrumptious vintage guitars and amps but somehow always looks cozy and nice and neat. The sweet backing tracks appear out of thin air and I noodle along to my hearts content. I also have a cool British accent and impeccable manners.

Killin brother. The breadth of your skill and knowledge is really something. Ernest ranglin! I remember being at a resort in Jamaica, a million years ago and the dude in the function band every night which was really just a quartet was absolutely burning and I asked the bartender “who is that guitar player” and he was like, “oh mon- dat’s Ernie Ranglin! he’s the best guitar player on dee whole island, mon.” His words-said in exactly that way. He was a super sweet dude too. I was a fan ever since and scarfed up any ernest ranglin recordings i could find.

I am finally learning the theory behind all of those basic chords I learned 40 years ago. I feel like I learned how to drive but never learned how to get anywhere. Your lessons are like learning how to read a map. Very inspirational. Thank you!

Bravo! What a lesson, dam! had to stop at 18 mins cuz it gave me so many ideas of how to practice new phrasing with double stops/ triads, side stepping, and flavorfully using passing tones to land on the upcoming chord tones, great explanation and flow in your delivery. Thx u

Hey, Alex. Another great lesson, in yet another great guitar "sub-genre" -- the "Motown Sound". Appreciate your emphasizing how those genre boundaries are highly porous, and the basic functional harmonies of Western music can make the classic licks from one genre, sound nice and fresh in another. (And Santa, if you're listening, all I want for Christmas is a nice old telecaster.) Rock on!

Thanks Eric, I'm so glad you enjoyed this one! And yes you're absolutely on my wavelength regarding the boundary-less approach to western guitar playing! Man, you know what, a student of mine picked up one of the Fender Vintera Telecasters for very cheap and it's honestly a fantastic guitar.. took me by surprise! I've given it a good setup and now it plays as well as any other tele I've played! 👌🏻

Great lesson! Aside from the comprehensive information, I love how you relate it to other ideas like the CAGED System for example. Also, really enjoy your relaxed teaching style. You just casually go to the heart of the matter without repeating yourself and put it over in understandable chunks. Excellent playing too! Many thanks. :)

I just found-and subscribed to-your channel. What a fortuitous occasion! Here are phrases which have eluded me. I’ve just been working to learn John McFee's parts for Elvis Costello’s Alison, and your lesson provides full context. Your playing is clean and so tasteful. Thank you for taking the time and effort to share it.

This is the best video outlining this soul/blues funk style. Double stops, triads, chromatic approach, the cage system. I use prob half these ideas and processes, but this has sort of filled the gaps! A few years ago I wouldn’t have been able to follow and process it so fast. Cause I know neck and these triads I can add it in. Can’t thank you enough!!
