Hello from Athens Alabama, I want to thank “Team Thompson” especially Gloria for allowing me to train with Mr. Ray Thompson and to meet and greet “Wonder Boy”. I will always remember the welcoming atmosphere and shear size of the Upstate Karate Studio, it was amazing to see. I never seen anything like it. I would like to make a trip to visit your fine establishment next year when I turn 67 years old, if I don't hurt myself. Have a very Happy Thanksgiving, and don't feed that huge dog too much Turkey! I'm taking about “Wonder Boy”, not the Rhodesian Mastiff puppy, haaaaaa! Douglas Lindsey p.s. I will actually work on that kicking speed drill.

@@RoNLIocthe big X factor Wonderboy has on Shavkhat is experience, you really can't train to fight a unique veteran striker like Wonderboy. Smart money is on Shavkhat, he's a monster, but Wonderboy could surprise him, he might be able to disrupt his timing and win a technical battle. I like both fighters but I definitely want Wonderboy to win.

When you start doing exercises with explosive movements, that is when muscles like to pull and tear. These are fantastic drills.

At the end of 2019 I committed to Freeletics because I saw Wonderboy on their display. Eventually I came to learn body control through fitness exercises and this way I also realised the bads (and goods) in the training program of my Senseis. Since I'm a traditional Karate practitioner, I noticed that there are a few things (which tend to become too many) that are explained totally wrong or from the wrong perspective and which eventually tend to produce this stream of practitioners that have either a perfect form but not really usable as is in fighting, or good fighters which are not that good at forms because they over adapted to fighting. So basically what WB and Mr. T show us is a set of functional fitness exercises adapted to fighting. This is awesome, and I believe every teacher/Sensei should follow a similar approach.

A big ol' thank you from the bottom of my heart to WB and Pops for putting this kick strengthener out there. I'm a white belt, about 1 1/2 months into training shotokan, and I am training every spare second I get. The kata we learn as a white belt is Taikyoku Shodan - while I appreciate how important the fundamentals that Taikyoku lays out are - it doesn't train any kicks unless I add kicks in. Front kicks, specifically. And man, at a month and a half, my mae geri just seems ABYSMAL. I have a hard time shifting/rotating my hips from Zen stance to square up and following that shift with my knee. As a bit of a heavier fella, I already know I have zero issues putting force behind my front kick. So I'm doing everything I can to dial back my tendency to really send that leg out there in order to focus on the precision, technique, and timing of it all. Having these few works outs to train the individual motions is going to be a great addition to my Kihon. Much thanks! One day my legs will feel like they're made out of more than paperclips and rubber bands lol

I see one big issue related to the speed drills for the "leg lifts". For someone advanced like wonderboy there is a speed limit, above which this exercise won't help him make anymore gains. If Stephen executes the movement as fast, that his momentum causes him to fall, he will fall. Now the body as an organism with a nervous system that will protect itself from falling, no matter what wonderboy wants to achieve in training. So the body itself will be limiting the speed to rpevent Stephen from alling. I know two approaches for this, that migh also help to test, if my assumed problem applies to wonderboy: 1. Put weights on your standing leg, just find a way. 2. (The harder one) Keep you standing leg bend during the whole "leg lift". That way you can redirect the momentum into the floor. Wonderboy is stretching the leg he stands upon during the "leg lift" a little. I'm curious about your results.
