I am a 61 year old physical therapist. I discovered my Dupuytren's contractures in both of hands eight years ago. I started stretching which helped but as an adjunct sprayed magnesium oil and rubbed it into my hands daily. I also started supplementing oral magnesium 300mg daily. Between the magnesium and stretches my hand range of motion/function is normal. I do still have minimal residual fibrosis of the cords before I started treating it but this is very minor. It is significantly less than when I started treating my hands. This is not a cure but a control. I continue with magnesium and stretching daily and it works for me. I looked but cannot find the article stating magnesium interferes with the collagen crosslinking to form the cords. The article also noted a high degree of patients with Dupuytren's contracture had low levels of magnesium. I hope this information helps. edit - Also of North European heritage

@@Richard-nv3hhThat’s interesting that you said a fall may have triggered the contracture. I will look into this theory. I had an electric bike crash into me and cause a fracture on my arm. Maybe the amount of time keeping my arm immobile triggered it.

Thank you for putting out this video. I started doing the stretches and it seems to be helping. My PCP sent me to a local hand specialist for treatment. The specialist said there was nothing he could do for me. Because of my age being 78 he just said it was arthritis. I would live with this as it is not painful, but I am a golfer. Difficult to take the proper grip on the club. i even installed special oversize grips which help a little.

Thank you so much for these , I have a severe contracture of the pinky’ finger of my dominant right hand , complicated by the fact I had a grade 8 open crush fracture of the right arm and wrist with external fixative application and subsequent 4 additional surgical procedures done in order to restore as much mobility , rotation and functional use of my hand and arm - happened back in 1995 ~ suddenly the fifth figure started really tightening up right at the beginning of COVID - I tried to do similar type stretches ~ but now it’s so severe I’m pretty sure I’ll have to have surgical intervention soon. I will do these exercises until that happens tho - thank you so much for posting these !

Hi folks I've suffered with aggressive Dupuytren's for years. I've had the middle finger operated on and so far so good. I do have it however in the small finger also in the left hand and in the little finger and index of the right hand. I use Magnesium oil with DMSO mix and I use a hard ball (tumble dryer ball) and massage vigorously every day for about 15 min. I wear a finger splint that I bought on Amazon. Before I put on the splint, at bedtime. I massage Sudocrem (like a baby nappy cream) into the hand. I have to say it keeps the finger softened and straight by the morning. I have found this to be more successful than stretches during the day. They were too painful. But much easier to them when the nodules are kept soft.

Since then the contracture has returned, but I am adamant not to have the surgery again. (only because of the numbing procedure.) I will try these stretches and see if they help. Anything without that needle is worth a try for me. If I ever do find it necessary for surgery, I will be demanding some Fentanyl before anything takes place.

Owwwww, difficult to incorporate these stretches. Would be helpful to know that this is normal reaction at first! Or perhaps it isn't? Good explanation of how to perform them. Also what/where are the shoulders placed when doing these exercises? Do you have recommendations for a soak to relax the pain in hands? Or herbal salves to apply? Some of my docs thinking it is trigger finger? Body reflexology and acupuncture also seem to relieve some of the achiness for some relief. dr.patryce

Hello. Great video. But I have lump at bottom pinky finger joint. Can I just buy that brace with the screw and slowly tighten it over days to the straight position? Will the tendons elongate permanently over time? Or will the tendons end up pushing through lump of joint cartilage? Just some great questions for you and me and your FANS. My pinky is at straight & normal on bottom joint and that is were lump is. Then the next two joints are at 45 degrees. Got it from vibration of gas weed cutter on handle. It definitely could be straightened in the manner I suggested. But will the tendons stay stretched? Thanks sir.

mine came after a surgery on my thumb. I wore a cast for a month, when they took it off my fingers curled in. Physical thereapy helped but 2 fingers are super limited and get worse every year.

@@patrickmcphee770 wishing you a speedy recovery mate. I definitely recommend these exercises because now I'm fully able to open my hand and do regular activities I couldn't do before! I'm not 100% percent but sure feels like it.

I have dupuytrena contracture in between my thumb and index finger specifically, unfortunately these specific exercises don’t stretch my affected area. Any exercises I can do for my thumb/ index?

I'm 60 years old and have worked as a stagehand for over thirty years. Almost 100% Irish, so I laughed when MD said North European heredity. But I will ask cousins if anyone else might have this. I''m wondering if others thought it was arthritis and did not seek treatment. I am in stage one of both hands, possibly from the trauma of grasping both hands in a bad car accident. Thanks for stretches.

What do you have to lose? Start stretching! I’ve notice dupuytrens for the last 2 years and continually stretch. So far I am winning. Hope it continues to work as I age.

I’ve had four trigger finger surgeries. My left hand ring finger is starting to contract and the knuckle on the back of my hand seems to have gotten bigger. I’m trying to do stretches and I don’t see the name of the splint he was talking about. I think I need to get it. Can anyone recommend a good splint for my left ring finger?

Hello, Thank-you for the video. For the stretches you suggest, should they be done without pain? For me, the pain can go from zero to 6-7 with only a small increment of movement.

I am 73 y/o female with East European and Scandinavian genetic history. The disease has just begun on left hand. Researching the disease it says stressing the hand can be a factor in setting things off. For a long time now I hold my cell phone in my left hand with thumb and fingers wrapped around opposite sides of the phone for hours at a time. My left hand becomes stiff in this position and difficult to open hand. Surely this stresses the hand enough to trigger the disease. What do you think?

I have very aggressive Dupuytren’s in both hands. It is impossible for me to put my palms together, or put my hands down flat on a table.
