28k Over Weight and a $8,330.50 Dollar Ticket!

Why I got a ticket- in Colorado you can only weigh 80k without a permit regardless of axle configuration. A $94 dollar permit will allow me up to 127,000 gross gcw with 6 axles. I was 108k gcw. So the ticket I received was for being 28k over legal weight without a permit. I got charged about $.29 cents per pound over 80k even though I abtained my legal permit in their parking lot without their help. I was confused cause I've been oversized in Wyoming many times. You pull into the port, buy your permit and go about your day. Very easy in Wyoming, Colorado, not so much.

I live in Monument and those port guys can be hard to deal with at times that’s for sure, one wasn’t gonna let me go 1 mile home because of a light flickering on the back of the tractor when I had my flatbed hooked up, I had to explain the laws to him 🤦🏼♂️ Congratulations to you and the wifey, great video.

It sounds like it worked out for the best. A veteran grain hauler that always ran crazy heavy told me that he never met a county attorney that wouldn’t cut an overload fine in half when talked to nicely… I’ve never had to try but just passing it along. I enjoy your good work!
I don't think I've ever seen someone be so calm over an 8k ticket. I know nothing of trucking, that's stunning to me.

Permit must be active before you hit the scale in many states. Going into Wyoming for instance you must call the port for a clearance number before you enter. South Dakota has similar laws. Minnesota says you have to have the permit in hand before entering. Us carriers with annual blanket permits have to log the piece of equipment and the exact route and dimensions before we move.

It's a cpl 625 400 big cam, unsure on power, I think it's a healthy 450 maybe. N14 turbo and a smaller button is all.

Where do heavy haulers park at night when they shut down? Do you have select areas when you trip plan?

There really is no designated areas unless you qualify as a super load

@ColtWR So, you select for certain truck stops with huge parking spots I'm guessing? I know tankers usually park at tank washes or customers.
