In this video, I'll share with you how my online reselling business made $280,302 in 2023 selling on platforms like Ebay, Poshmark and Depop - and how we started a wholesale clothing business that made us over $135,000 in less than a year!
My name is Bethany - welcome to my channel! My husband Sean and I run Trash Pandas Thrift, a multi-6 figure reselling business. You can follow us on Instagram & Whatnot @ Trash Pandas Thrift!

Wow you explained this process so well. I try to explain to my family how I know what to buy for resell and I don’t think they get it 😂unfortunately there is no goodwill outlet near where I live so I have to be creative at local thrift stores and the regular goodwill, knowledge is key like you said. Thank you!

That’s so kind of you to say!! I’m glad that it was explained well. :) that really does suck about not having outlets near you - there are also Salvation Army outlets, thrift store outlets and some rag houses spread across the country so that may be a possibility too! Also yes! The knowledge is what’s allowed us to thrive in so many different environments and love that you prioritize that :)

Thank you so so much! That’s very kind of you to say! :) Of the $280K, we had deductions of course like cost of good, which for us was very low at around $1 per piece, and several other business expense related purchases and deductions that our CPA helped us work through. We also paid ourselves as employees of the business for that year, which is different than many other sole proprietor based businesses, and then we also took out other profits as distributions from the company so it’s hard to give a roundabout on taxes on the gross profit alone - so many things were taxed differently out of that money earned and there were also many deductions. We have been able to pay off debt that we’ve had, travel to places we never thought we’d be able to go, and as of 7ish months ago we moved to the city that we’ve been wanting to live in for a long time - San Francisco (and we’re able to both work full time on our business without having any tech jobs lol) Thanks for your comment and we appreciate you following along on our journey!!

@@TrashPandasThrift I'm in the NYC region. They recently changed their whole business and they are pulling out pretty much anything of value - even basics like Eileen Fisher. It's reflected in their thrift stores in the city - they always pulled things out but they recently hired someone to lead their e-retail so now it's incredibly barebones. Our bins used to be good, I hear that 5 years ago and back they were incredible. Now, there isn't a lot of inventory and it's mostly bottom of the barrel - most of it has always been damaged anyway. I don't go anymore. I'm happy to pay up at the retail stores for good items that are not damaged. But California is amazing for thrifting! I'd love to do the bins out there sometime! @@n.s.8015 Unfortunately employees pulling more and more items is happening EVERYWHERE across the country, even with basics like you mentioned and it totally sucks (for us resellers haha) I've always felt that it's our job as resellers to continue to learn new and more obscure brands, keep up with trends and styles, and like I mentioned in the video too, to really work to use keywords and other marketing tactics to sell items that other resellers can't/won't and sell items the thrift stores aren't pricing up/don't know about. Reselling will continue evolving and getting more competitive everywhere and I've always loved the fact that with more knowledge, we can continue to thrive. :) So happy your stores are proving fruitful!!! I come right after and scoop up top name brands and current trends. Typically only spend 1- 2 hours there and leave with 30-40 lbs of goods. I love the idea of going to yard sales but don’t find it’s worth the bang for the buck, as I drive between sales and may find nothing. Bins is a 💯 better use of my time. Hi Cheryl! We can make a WHOLE separate video on this - as a matter of fact, we will! Basically though, we sourced items that we would have otherwise sourced for our own stores and then sold them to other resellers and physical thrift stores across the country at wholesale prices. This allowed us to avoid 15%+ in fees (PayPal was only 3.5% comparatively) and also move pieces in volume, and in and out of our business the same week we purchased them. I will give a much deeper dive into that business model sometime soon here on the channel and appreciate you asking about this :)

Then this video is about know your brands, it's all about brands and also half your money was made on wholesale not listing yourself. So which is it? Spend all day at the bins looking for brands you can wholesale? Or its all about style based listing with keywords? On the topic of wholesale, who do you sell to? How did you find buyers? Where do you sell etc

  • @TrashPandasThrift

Hi there! I never said it’s exclusively about knowing brands in this video or any other - knowledge is our #1 tool as resellers and having a vast knowledge of brands IS important, just like having knowledge on styles, keywords and aesthetics is very important. We are everything sellers - we always have been. Last year, we sold somewhere around a 60/40 split of style based clothes and brand/ASP/STR based. Half of our money WAS made via wholesale - wholesaling to other resellers and stores who sell clothes themselves. We still sourced all of our clothes from the goodwill outlet that we were wholesaling. As wholesalers, we sell to a mix of clients. Some focus on style/trends/aesthetics, and some focus on brand and high ASP. As far as what business model to follow, I can’t tell you whether to wholesale or sell clothes on platforms. That’s an individual choice for your business. As far as finding clients - social media has been our main tool. And no, not with our KZread channel, this is very new. Via cold instagram DMs when we had basically zero followers and cold emails.
